Today, 28th June, is the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul*, two of the greatest of all the saints in the history of the Church.

Peter, a simple fisherman, was selected as the leader of the disciples early in Jesus' ministry. Despite denying he knew Jesus, God never gave up on him. He went on to become the first Bishop of Rome, where he was eventually martyred for his faith.

Paul was an aristocratic, scholarly speaker (although he also made tents to supplement his income). Although originally an enemy of the Church, he was dramatically converted to Christianity on the road to Damascus and became one of Jesus' most vocal followers. He wrote many beautiful letters, which we still have and read, about what it means to live as a Christian.

The two men were killed in Rome, separately, but they are celebrated on the same day as they are seen as they were one in their faith and ministry, which reminds us that in the family of the Church, all have a part to play, and all are equal under Christ.

You can celebrate this happy festival at St. Editha's today with a special Eucharist at 10am and a Festival Evensong at 6pm.

* It's actually on 29th June but churches are allowed to transfer it to the nearest Sunday

This coming Sunday (14th), we are excited to announce that James Halliwell will be giving us an insight to the work of Tearfund, an international Christian relief and development agency. It currently works in around 50 countries, with a primary focus on supporting those in poverty and providing disaster relief for disadvantaged communities. Please join us, if you can, to hear about the amazing work that they do.

Father, help me to live this day to the full, being true to you in every way.
Jesus, help me to give myself away to others, being kind to everyone I meet.
Spirit, help me to love the lost, proclaiming Christ in all I do and say.
Amen.

Holy Spirit, awaken my heart to joy today. I offer you all my life and I especially welcome your presence in any part of my story that has been tender. Be with me. Still my anxious heart with your love. Remind me that I belong. Awaken my heart to praise you.
I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
