Pope Saint Gregory, a Doctor of the Church, is considered as one of the most influential Pope’s in the history of the Church.

Saint Gregory was born into a wealthy, noble family in Rome. His father was the mayor of Rome, a position he occupied before he had reached the age of 30. He resigned from the mayoralty after five years and became a Benedictine monk and priest. He was elected Pope, aged 50, during a time of the Lombard invasions, plague and flooding. In spite of these dangerous challenges, he reformed the liturgy including sacred music by actively supporting Gregorian chant, which was named after him and he sent missionaries to convert the Anglo-Saxons in England.

He ensured Church resources were well managed and properly administered and used them to feed the poor and hungry. His Pastoral Rule became the standard for pastoral leadership by bishops for centuries and his motto 'Servant of the Servants of God,' is a title still used by Popes today.

The love of God ensures the love of our neighbour, and the love of our neighbour serves to keep alive the love of God.

🚴‍♂️🙏 Please keep Andrew in your prayers as he continues his pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

Now on Day 13 of his journey, Andrew is writing from Ars, home of St John Vianney. Along the way, he has experienced the incredible hospitality of religious communities, including the Cistercians and Benedictines, who have offered him meals, shelter and encouragement.

As he reflects on his journeyof over 1,000km, Andrew's thoughts turn to those who cannot freely live out their faith because of persecution. Their witness is a powerful reminder of why the work of Aid to the Church in Need and the 10th anniversary of is so important.

Please pray for Andrew's continued safety, strength and perseverance on the road. And if you can, support his fundraising challenge to help persecuted and suffering Christians around the world.

Through the prayers of his holy mother, St. Monica, and the preaching of St. Ambrose, Augustine changed his life from one centred on pleasure-seeking to one in which Christ was firmly rooted at the centre.

In 395, Augustine was named Bishop of Hippo. Through his teaching and writings, which included his Confessions and The City of God, Augustine shepherded his flock.

Augustine is an inspiration to many who still or have struggled in the past to break with habits or vices.
