Why Christians Celebrate Harvest Festival

Thanksgiving to God: Believers thank God for the weather, the earth, and the hard work of farmers who grow and gather crops to sustain human life.

Historical and Biblical Roots: Modern British traditions were popularized in the 1840s (such as by the Rev. Robert Hawker), echoing ancient biblical festivals of first-fruits and gratitude found in both the Old and New Testaments.

Environmental Stewardship: It is a time to reflect on caring for the natural world, climate responsibility, and how food gets from the land to our tables.

Spiritual Reflection: Jesus often used harvest imagery to talk about spiritual growth, community, and sharing the Gospel message with others.

Why Helping Our Community is Important

Following the Example of Jesus: Christians try to live out the teachings and actions of Jesus by looking after the vulnerable, poor, and isolated.

Practical Generosity: Harvest services traditionally involve collecting tinned goods, dry foods, and donations. These items are distributed directly to local foodbanks, shelters, or families struggling through hard times.

Strengthening Bonds: Sharing resources builds unity, compassion, and a sense of shared responsibility within neighborhoods and parish communities.

Global Solidarity: Many churches also extend their support overseas to charities addressing world hunger, poverty, and climate challenges.

Dear all students and staff at hillocks academy school
I wanted to send a very big thank you to everyone for the collection of food you collected.
It was a truly special day for me to return to the school that my children used to attend. The generosity was overwhelming, and there was plenty of food to go around and hand out to lots of people and use in our church.
Thank you all so much once again for your kindness and support.

Best regards,
