Pilgrimage: a journey for leaders

Pilgrimage: a journey for leaders We are committed to helping leaders find joy in Jesus in community with other leaders. We invite you to join the Pilgrimage.

We believe the greatest need in the Church of our day is leaders who are committed to the pursuit of Christlikeness in their own lives above everything else. We believe that there is a better way to lead that is more joy-filled than many of us experience in leadership. Our mission is to create an environment where a leader can journey towards a joy-filled life with others for the good of their sou

l. As such, this is not primarily leadership development; it is an invitation to a pilgrimage of the soul. It is an invitation to discover God and yourself in a way that will help you know life to the full, just as Jesus intended it. We will discover the joy of being a follower of Jesus before we are a leader for Jesus. It is in this place the pressure is off, and we begin to partner with him in his work rather than drive his work from an unhealthy place. We will learn to abide through developing a Rhythm of Life so that God works in all things, not just some things, to shape us. We will embrace being Pentecostal and explore the contemplative and charismatic elements of both. To draw us in and send us out in the power of Holy Spirit. The invitation: We invite you to join Pilgrimage, a 12-month journey of discovery of the deep work of Jesus with others for the good of your soul. Pilgrimage is a public ministry of Oasis Community Church, Stratford upon Avon. OCC is Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance. Registered Charity 251549 (England) and SC037754 (Scotland)

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
Not just the big, once-in-a-lifetime events but the everyday progressing and processing moments. What are you celebrating right now? Where are you perceiving God at work? Paying attention is key to celebrating.

We can so often miss the moments of grace and goodness that we get to be a part of. Pause. Ask Holy Spirit to remind you of a way in which you’ve experienced something of the goodness or grace of God in the last 7 days. Now, how can you celebrate Jesus?

Sabbath seems to be a word on everyone’s lips these days. But what does it actually mean? What does it look like to serve, lead, work from a place of rest rather than for rest? Is it more than a middle-class day off?

When God made the world he initiated a day off. Not because he was tired after calling the earth into existence, but as a model for humanity. We are not made to work, produce, achieve without ceasing. Jesus himself made time and space to withdraw, to recharge even in the midst of busyness. Sabbath is making space to remember Jesus is in control and we are not. It allows us to re-orientate ourselves around the truth that we are not what we do.

How can you make space for that this week?

Luke 5:27-29
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them.

When you think of partnering with Jesus in his mission, what do you have in mind?

Do you think of evangelistic courses or joining in with a specific mission week with your home church? Is it going on a short-term mission trip overseas?

These are great ways of engaging in mission but what would it look like for you to open your life (and home) to people who don’t know Jesus?

What does it look like for you to make space for your friends to meet with Jesus?

What is one of the ways we find joy in following Jesus is to intentionally participate in his mission, how might that shape your way of living?

Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl[g] on the earth.”
So God created man
in his own image;
he created him in the image of God;
he created them male and female.

God made us in his image, to be his image bearers in the world he created. Humanity was intended to be his representatives on the earth stewarding it for God’s glory.

Adam and Eve’s disloyalty broke our role as his representatives (Genesis 3).

Jesus, through faith in him, restores us as image bearers and sons and daughters of God, who represent his family to the rest of creation (Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 5:17).

If this is so, how does this change the way you think about Christian Spiritual Formation and your role in being a witness to Jesus? Where have you seen the most growth that means you represent the Kingdom of God well?

What one thing have you identified in your life that might be a barrier to representing him well? It could be the way you respond when things don’t go your way. Maybe it is how you speak about others you disagree with. Think about what goes in inside you that you don’t like, how does it work its way out?

Bring this to the Lord in confession and prayer.

Philippians 4: 9 "Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."

What kind of learner are you? Do you like books? Do you need your senses engaged? Is a ‘hands-on-show-me-what-to-do’ approach your preference? Are you one of those people who can actually read and follow instructions?

Our minds are wonderful and beautiful things. We have the ability to learn. We can take information, revelation, insight and begin to understand ideas and concepts. But the real learning takes place when we start to apply it to our lives.

What are you learning this week that needs to move from head knowledge to lived reality?
