Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl[g] on the earth.”
So God created man
in his own image;
he created him in the image of God;
he created them male and female.
God made us in his image, to be his image bearers in the world he created. Humanity was intended to be his representatives on the earth stewarding it for God’s glory.
Adam and Eve’s disloyalty broke our role as his representatives (Genesis 3).
Jesus, through faith in him, restores us as image bearers and sons and daughters of God, who represent his family to the rest of creation (Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
If this is so, how does this change the way you think about Christian Spiritual Formation and your role in being a witness to Jesus? Where have you seen the most growth that means you represent the Kingdom of God well?
What one thing have you identified in your life that might be a barrier to representing him well? It could be the way you respond when things don’t go your way. Maybe it is how you speak about others you disagree with. Think about what goes in inside you that you don’t like, how does it work its way out?
Bring this to the Lord in confession and prayer.
