Eid Al-Fitr 20-03-2026 Khutbah
Delivered by Dr. Shehata (Arabic)
Translated by Dr. Ahmed Loutfi
⸻
We seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and from our bad deeds. Whomever Allah guides, none can lead astray, and whomever He allows to go astray, none can guide. We bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs all dominion and all praise; He gives life and causes death, and He is capable of all things.
Say: It is He who has produced you and made for you hearing, sight, and hearts, yet little are you grateful.
Say: It is He who has spread you throughout the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.
Glory be to You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, You are the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.
And we send prayers and peace upon the best of His messengers, Muhammad ﷺ, and upon his family and companions.
⸻
All praise is due to Allah who has honored us with this blessed month. Today is a day of joy—joy for those who have prayed, joy for those who have fasted. Today is a season for those who remember Allah. On this blessed day, Allah looks upon His servants and forgives them.
We have just come out of a عظيمة school—a great educational and spiritual school—that lasted for 30 days. In this school, we were nurtured on the table of the Qur’an. We were trained in patience and obedience.
Today, we say: we are not truly bidding farewell to this blessed month. If we do, then we are only bidding farewell to its time, as Allah described it as “a limited number of days.” It passed quickly, but it left behind a great and lasting أثر (impact).
We are saying goodbye to days, but not to what lives in our hearts. We have learned great lessons from it.
⸻
The first lesson is holding firmly to the Book of Allah. This message sent to us must be held onto tightly. If you loved the Qur’an in Ramadan and maintained its recitation—then congratulations to you. And if you fell short, the opportunity is still before you to return to the Book of Allah and make it part of your daily life.
⸻
We also learned obedience to Allah. As mentioned, fasting is of three levels:
• The fasting of the العامة (general people): abstaining from food and drink
• The fasting of the special: abstaining from sins like backbiting
• The fasting of the elite: the fasting of the heart—keeping it attached only to Allah
So we must preserve what we trained ourselves upon: protect our hearts, our limbs, and our connection with Allah.
⸻
We learned that this Muslim Ummah is united through acts of worship:
• Daily worship: the five prayers
• Weekly worship: Jumu‘ah (Friday prayer)
• Annual worship: Ramadan fasting
• Global worship: Hajj
Allah has prescribed Ramadan so that we may attain taqwa (God-consciousness): “so that you may become righteous.”
So reflect on your heart, O Muslim. If you have attained taqwa, then know that Allah has favored you and written you among those freed from the Fire in this month.
And if Allah has written you among those freed, then you will be among the happiest on the Day of Judgment—crossing the bridge (Ṣirāṭ) with no fear and no harm.
