Yesterday we concluded our Scripture Union lunchtime sessions in Stane Primary School. The pupils enjoyed some tasty sandwiches, fruit and drinks along with some fun activities to mark the end of this term's sessions

This was the first year we ran SU in a local school and we are incredibly grateful to SU Scotland for getting us started and providing us with all of the tools we needed.

The voluntary lunchtime club gives children an opportunity to explore the Christian faith in a friendly and engaging environment. Through games, quizzes, discussions, Bible stories, videos, and personal testimonies, young people are introduced to the message of the Bible and encouraged to think about how it relates to everyday life. The club has provided a safe and welcoming space where pupils can ask questions, build friendships, and learn more about Jesus in an age-appropriate way.

We're grateful to our own volunteers for their help and to Simon and Hannah Snodgrass who have supported us.

God is good.

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You. (Psalm 56:3)

Fear is something we all experience from time to time. Whether it is a medical procedure, a difficult decision, a family issue, or a financial burden, there are many things in life that can make us fearful. In fact, in Psalm 56:3 David doesn't say 'if' I am afraid - he says 'when' I am afraid. Even this man of great faith, who faced Goliath, led armies, and would become Israel's greatest king, knew what it was to be afraid.

Sometimes as Christians we can become discouraged when fear comes. Yet fear itself is often a natural reaction to the circumstances in our lives which can try us, test us, shock us and leave us unsure of what to do next. The reality is that we often have little control over our circumstances and no choice about whether difficult situations come into our lives.

What we do have a choice about is what we do when fear arrives.

David says, 'When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.' Instead of focusing on his problems, relying on his own wisdom, or trying to find strength within himself, he deliberately turns to God. In defiance of his fears and emotions, he chooses to trust the Lord.
Ultimately fear should not drive us away from God, it should drive us to Him. He is the One who has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He is the One who meets our needs and whose grace is sufficient for every trial.

And because of the cross and the empty tomb, the born again Christian can know that whatever we face, our greatest problem has already been dealt with - that being our problem with sin. The God who gave His Son for us will not abandon us now.

The hymn writer put it well:

"Sometimes He calms the storm, but sometimes He calms His child."

We have had the joy of welcoming 2 new people into membership of our church this morning with 2 more scheduled to come into membership next month.

It was a real encouragement to hear Tom and Sandy share something of their journey of faith and God's leading in their lives. We are thankful to the Lord for bringing them to us and for His continued work in building His church.

We wish Tom and Sandy every blessing as they settle into church membership and seek to serve the Lord in and through Shotts EU Congregational.

'And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved' (Acts 2:47)

We forgot to take a picture at church today, so this one will have to do.

We'll be meeting together for worship tomorrow at the usual time of 1130.

We are delighted to be bringing in a number of new members to the church. During the service they will be sharing some verses from God's word that mean much to them as well as their journey to faith and indeed their journey to Shotts Congregational Church.

Everyone will be made most welcome.

Sunday School and Crèche is on as normal.

3rd Shotts Boys' Brigade

What a fantastic evening we enjoyed at our 2nd Annual Display for the revived 3rd Shotts Boys' Brigade!

As another session draws to a close, we are incredibly proud of all of our boys. Last night they did an outstanding job of showcasing some of what they have been learning throughout the year, demonstrating not only new skills and abilities, but also confidence, teamwork, perseverance and character.

Our Highland Games-themed display, organised by one of our Officers, Sean Chalmers, provided plenty of laughter, fun and friendly competition. The boys threw themselves into every challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Special mention must go to Grayson who, despite breaking his thumb just hours before the display, persevered throughout the evening with remarkable courage and determination.

The evening began with an impressive marching display, with the boys proudly demonstrating their coordination, discipline, listening skills and teamwork. The programme from last night is among the pictures below.

We were delighted to welcome Mrs Simpson, Head Teacher of Stane Primary School, as our Guest of Honour, along with Mr O'Donnell . We are grateful to them all for taking the time to support the boys, celebrate their achievements and for their kind words.

One of the highlights of the evening was recognising the boys' hard work through the presentation of awards and badges. This year alone, over 60 badges were awarded which is significant given the size of our company. At 3rd Shotts BB, badges are not given automatically; they are earned through commitment, participation and effort. We firmly believe that this is what gives them their value and significance. Every badge represents a challenge accepted, a new skill learned, a step taken outside a comfort zone, or a lesson learned from God's Word.

Looking back over the year, we have watched the boys grow in so many ways. We have seen friendships develop, confidence increase and teamwork flourish. From learning new skills and taking part in community projects, to visits to Rosehall and Morningside Care Homes, supporting the Shoebox Appeal, participating in Remembrance events and exploring the Bible together, it has been another full and rewarding year. At the centre of BB is always the word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ which is that He died on the cross of Calvary, taking upon Himself punishment for our sins before rising again on the 3rd day so that, through faith we might be saved from the penalty of our sin and have peace with God.

We would like to publicly thank our award sponsors whose generosity enabled us to recognise and celebrate the boys' achievements:

Mary Cook
Russell Wilson Heating Engineer
Transat, Shotts
Phil and Naomi Geary
Martin Phillips
Yvette Geary
LOL No. 9

Craig Bailee (Bee Electrical)

A huge thank you must also go to our Officers and helpers:

Martin Phillips
Sean Chalmers
Andy Allan
Jim Williams
Naomi Geary
Janice Whitefield
Yvette Geary
Edith Ross
Morag Forsyth

Each person brings something unique to the Company and gives far more than simply their time each week. Their commitment, enthusiasm and care for the boys is the foundation upon which the Company is built.

We also want to thank our friends at Dykehead Mission Hall, and especially John McPhee for their generosity in allowing us to use their excellent facilities both for rehearsals and for the display itself. It is a wonderful example of churches working together for the good of young people in our community.

Finally, we thank all those who support the Company through prayer, practical help and encouragement throughout the year. We appreciate your support and certainly don't take it for granted.

Above all, we once again thank God for His faithfulness and goodness. As our opening hymn reminded us God is faithful at all times and all circumstances.

Three years ago, the idea of restarting 3rd Shotts BB was little more than a conversation. Today, we look back with thankful hearts at all God has enabled us to do and all that the boys have achieved.

BB is now finished for the season - If you would like more information or wish to register your interest for next term, please contact:

We are very pleased to afford our very good friends Simon and Hannah Snodgrass use of our facilities next week for their prayer breakfast.

We often share about their work and how by working in conjunction with them we have been able to offer fantastic events and clubs for children in our communities.

We would encourage anyone in our area who would like to hear an encouraging update on their work, to pray with and for CEF and to enjoy some breakfast to book via their link which is:

Date for the diary:

We’re delighted to be hosting the very first Local Ministry Hub prayer meeting here in Shotts in partnership with SU Scotland.

Over recent years we’ve known the joy and witnessed the blessing of working alongside SU in reaching local schools with the good news of Jesus Christ. Whether through school visits, clubs, assemblies or pupils coming along to activities and events within our church, we have seen first-hand the encouragement and blessing that comes when local Christians work together for the sake of the next generation.

Our schools and young people need prayer more than ever, and this gathering is an opportunity for believers from across the area to hear an update on the work of SU in our area and to unite in seeking God for the children, staff and families within our community.

This will take place on Tuesday 16th June at 8pm.

Tea & coffee is guaranteed, biscuits are dependent on how close to the start time you arrive!

We were blessed to have two dedications this weekend – Ozzie Ferguson and Harris Toner.
What a joy it was to gather with their families and friends to thank God for these precious gifts and to ask for His blessing upon their lives.

In simple terms a dedication follows the examples we find in Scripture and involves a public thanksgiving to God for the gift of a child and a commitment by parents to seek to bring their child up knowing the love, truth and teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a church family, we also commit ourselves to supporting, encouraging and praying for those children and their families belonging to our fellowship in the years ahead.

We give thanks to God for Ozzie and Harris and pray that they may both grow to know the Lord for themselves and experience His grace and goodness throughout their lives not least in salvation.

We were reminded through the services of how Jesus' attitude towards children is so vividly described in Mark 10 when He rebukes His own disciples for hindering the little children to come to Him. Jesus uses a child to describe how we can have peace with God and how we might be saved and enter into the kingdom of Heaven. This involves acknowledging that there's nothing we can do in and of our own merit to be saved and to have our sin dealt with. Instead, we're completely dependent on someone else, namely Jesus who went to the cross to pay the price of our sins so that we can be saved through placing our faith in Him and repenting of our sins.

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from Him
