THE TWENTIETH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION. As the embodiment of God's love and mercy, Christ is presented to us in today's readings as the ultimate access to God's salvation, to all especially the Gentile nations of the earth. His response to the Canaanite woman by granting her request and satisfying her heart's desire, though after testing her faith; reveals to us God's inclusive love for all mankind without exception. In affirming that His house is a house of prayer for all peoples, in the prophecy of Isaiah; God demonstrates His extended arms towards all, welcoming all peoples of varied languages, cultures, nationalities and religions who acknowledge Him as Thier God and seek Him with sincere hearts. In trusting completely in the goodness of God and humbling herself before Christ, the Canaanite woman demonstrates that true faith never gives up easily. Today's readings underscore the fact that God's grace is never restricted to any single group, race, status or religion. And so, no one is considered a stranger in the presence of God.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR ASYLUM OUTREACH which officialy began FIVE YEARS AGO in our Hall, supported by Doncaster Council and Doncaster Conversation Club. During this time we have been a lifeline to so many and shared our Christian values with the entire community. We have felt so much love and given hope and encouragement to some wonderful people as they embark on new lives in our country.
Sadly our work is currently on hold following a vicious hate campaign by a local man who is using the power of social media to manipulate the truth and poison the minds of gullible people in our area. He has posted video clips skillfully edited to present total lies and to incite hatred to vulnerable people living here. Sadly this attack on our outreach also brings to an end the wonderful work our Asylum Community have done in transforming and maintaining our church grounds.

WE ARE STILL LOOKING for some kind soul(s) to help us manage the Hall and there are a few upcoming bookings. Please let us know if you or any family member would be willing to become involved. Thanks.

THE NINETEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION. Today's readings bring to focus our faith journey in life symbolised in the apostles' sail across the waters, precisely in Peter's walk on the water. Peter's walk on the water comes with an exhortation for us, to always maintain our focus and attention on Christ when facing life's turbulent storms and challenges. In going through the crises of life being it illness, loss, financial strain, business set-back, depression etc, Jesus does not necessarily remove the storm, but He walks into it and through it with us. In acknowledging this fact in faith, His words of encouragement resound in our hearts namely, 'It is I, do not be afraid'. The Prophet Elijah's meeting with God on mount Horeb underscores the necessity of having consultations with the God who sends us on a mission.

SECURITY ISSUES AROUND CHURCH We are aware of threats of vandalism towards our church property and the suspicious vehicle seen by Father before Mass on Saturday evening was in fact the Police CCTV Unit, keeping an eye out for us.

WE ARE STILL LOOKING for some kind soul(s) to help us manage the Hall. We have an amazing resource in our trust and it should be used for the betterment of our Parish and our wider community. But it needs willing helpers to open, close, clean and manage it. We have three regular weekly events there but it is also in demand for special events and hires. It would be nice if we could even hold an occasional Parish Function in there, but again it needs ideas and lots of willing hands, Please let us know if you or any family member would be willing to become involved. Thanks.

THE EIGHTEEN SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION. The first step to Spiritual growth is realising that the Soul's deepest desire can only be filled and satisfied by God Himself. The Prophet Isaiah's question in the first reading namely, "Why spend your money on what is not bread?", underscores the human's misguided and misdirected quest for satisfaction. Labouring for temporary, material 'bread'- wealth, status, human needs and wants or distractions- only leave us still Spiritually empty and being in constant want. Thus he warns us against spending our time and energy on things that do not offer ultimate satisfaction. In the miracle of the multiplication of loaves, Christ draws our attention to the fact that God's grace and abundant provision are given freely to all who seek Him. Today's readings bring our focus to the great love of God for mankind made visible in Christ- our Eucharistic food, the source and summit of our life, which sustains us all through our earthly journey.

THE SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION In presenting us with the parables of the hidden treasure and that of the pearl of great value, Christ invites and urges us to recognize and pursue the ultimate Wisdom attainable in the supreme value of the kingdom of heaven. He challenges us to re-evaluate our earthly priorities and make God's kingdom our ultimate pursuit. In requesting for wisdom, an understanding and discerning heart, king Solomon in today's first reading draws our attention to the fact that it is true wisdom that allows us to discern what is genuinely valuable. Today's Psalmist reminds us that obeying God's Will as embedded in His law and made manifest in His Word, gives us light, and as such, is the gateway to real life. In reminding us of the final judgement, the parable of the net cast into the sea challenges us to actively shape and pattern our lives in conformity with the demands of the ultimate treasure - eternal life in heaven. In these parables, Christ reminds us of the beauty and excellence of eternal life. And God's kingdom which is this ultimate treasure, is hidden from the wise of this world.

WE WELCOME into our Catholic community Akuchukwu Ifeanychukwu Okafor who was baptised in our church this afternoon. Please hold him and his famiy in your prayers as he begins his journey of faith.

THE SIXTH WORLD DAY for Grandparents and the Elderly takes place this Sunday 26th July to coincide with the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the maternal grandparents of Jesus. The theme chosen by Pope Leo XIV this year is “I will never forget you” (Is 49:15). Taken from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, it is meant to be a message of consolation and hope, especially for those who live in loneliness or feel forgotten, and reminds us how God’s love for every person never fails, not even in the frailty of old age.

THE SIXTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION One of the indubitable indices of true love is the lover's desire for intimacy with the one loved. The readings of this Sunday bring to spotlight the radical, quiet patience of God and His desire for us to prioritize intimacy with Him. In underscoring God's elastic patience and restraint from destroying evil immediately, the parable of the weeds reveals the reason for God's leniency namely, that we might have enough room to effect a change of heart and repent. God's justice is clearly defined by His supreme mercy. Notwithstanding the challenge posed by the co-existence of good and evil in the world, God's leniency and elastic patience provides us the opportunity to make hay while the sun shines. The parable gives us the indication that the final judgment belongs to God alone at the harvest time, not to human impatience. The first and the Gospel readings highlight God's supreme Power which is made manifest not through harsh destruction, but through leniency, mercy and giving sinners the opportunity to repent.

NOTICE ANYTHING DIFFERENT TONIGHT? Apart from the Scaffolding. you will see that the Window Louvres above the altar have finally been scraped and repainted a warm Sunshine colour. The Crucifix above the Porch has been repainted and the floodlight repaired. Our Fire Alarm system is now fully working again and all the side windows have been re-sealed. This should keep us watertight for a few more years but long term the windows will all need replacing.

THE FIFTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION. In inviting us to explore the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-23), the Church through the readings challenges us to examine properly the soil of our hearts (our disposition and aptitude towards receiving God's word), to recognize God's unimaginable generosity in scattering His word. The parable of the sower challenges us to be committed to being the rich soil that yields abundant spiritual harvest. It equally underscores the fact that divine presence is all it takes to bring about all that is needed in our world, to make it a better place. The parable of the sower presents us with a picture of an unbelievably generous God who gives everything away and is always prepared to give everything away out of love.

THE FOURTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION. The Liturgical readings of the fourteenth Sunday of the year A present us with a divine sense of belonging- God's clear indication of identifying with us. In the Gospel reading, we come to terms with Christ's heart warming and tender invitation namely, 'come to me all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest.' Matthew 11:28. Reminding us of the in-dwelling of the Spirit of God within us, St. Paul the apostle exhorts us to live in the Spirit and not in the flesh. Living in the Spirit enables us to emancipate ourselves from the burdens and cumbersomeness of the flesh and it's cravings. Harkening to Christ's words in the Gospel reading provides us with a leeway to the freedom from the burdens of the flesh. His words in the Gospel reading about shouldering His yoke is an invitation to a life of simplicity. The Church urges us through the readings to leverage on His invitation for a better life of lasting freedom.

BISHOP RALPH WILL CELEBRATE his fiftieth anniversary of ordination this coming Friday, and will preside at Mass at 11:30am at the Cathedral Church of St Marie. Priests from our Diocese will concelebrate with him. This will be a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to Almighty God for Bishop Ralph’s 50 years of priestly ministry but also to show our gratitude to him for the 12 years of his ministry as Bishop of Hallam. There is also a Collection for Bishop Ralph.

PLEASE REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS the family and friends of Maureen Kay who died recently. Maureen’s Funeral Service will take place in our church on Wednesday 15th July at 11am.

A MASSIVE THANKS to everyone who supported our Summer Raffle by providing prizes or buying tickets, and to Teresa and Anne for the hard work of organising it. A magnificent £545 was raised and that will go towards a programme of long overdue repairs to our Church. We need to raise around £2,800 towards: repairs to the heating, fixing the kitchen water heater, replacing Fire Alarm points and front floodlight, repainting the louvres above the altar plus the Crucifix above the porch door. We also need to replace seals to the side windows and will only know the extent of that once the scaffolding has arrived. We have already received two extremely generous anonymous donations but still need further fund raising and would welcome any initiatives you might have to get us over the line. Thanks,

A NEW WEEKLY PRIZE BINGO is running on Friday evenings in our hall and is very well attended. We are all invited to join in this joint venture to raise cash for a local children’s Marching Band. See notices attached to the E-Bulletin.

THE ELEVENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR A: REFLECTION. To serve the Lord with gladness, as the Psalmist exhorts us, is a special invitation to a special mission. This mission is not just for ordained ministers but for all baptized people to bring God's love and goodness to our families and communities. The readings of today highlight God's compassion and initiative in calling us to be a kingdom of priests, as His 'special possession'. The readings highlight our identity as a 'holy nation' CF. Exodus 19. Christ in the Gospel reading reminds us that we are called as labourers in a bountiful harvest, and among other things, to be a reflection of God's mercy and kindness to a weary world. The readings invite us to recognize ourselves both as recipients of His unfailing goodness and mercy, and labourers sent to share His love with the world.

THE DIOCESAN MEETING went well on Thursday evening with Bishop Marcus Stock in attendance. We were part of a major consultation regarding the merits and disadvantages of re-uniting Hallam and Middlesborough with the Diocese of Leeds. Our responses are being collated with the intention of forming a new structure for the future. There was consensus throughout all the gathered Parish representatives that communications have been poor and resources and best practice have not been shared effectively for years. Bishop Stock outlined a number of possible scenarios for the clustering and management of our Parishes and shared his vision for a Diocese structured to meet our needs more effectively in a rapidly changing world, using technologies and communication methods people have come to expect.
