Yesterday was Maundy Thursday.
For the first time since being baptised, I can honestly say I’m starting to truly understand what happened when Jesus was put to death and rose again on the third day.
We all know the story as kids—we hear people talk and sing songs. But my childhood was more about chocolate eggs, the Easter bunny, and of course Good Friday at South Shields fairground!
I’ve been baptised almost 4 years, but this year was the first time I really sat down, read about it in my Bible, and properly researched it.
There’s no right or wrong way to do things, but I felt led to start new traditions in my own family. Less of the world, more of Jesus. Yes, we’ll still have eggs and fun activities—but I want the centre of this time to be about Jesus and the ultimate sacrifice He made.
So last night, after a lot of research, I put together the types of food Jesus would have had that night with His friends. We shared it with our friends, we prayed, and we shared life. We reflected on the sadness of the event—but even more, the gratitude we have for what He endured for us, so we can now live free from sin and be born again.
We also took time to wash each other’s feet.
Jesus did this for His disciples on that very night—not because He had to, but to show them what true love and humility looks like. The King of kings knelt down and washed their feet, taking the position of a servant. He was teaching them—and us—that we are called to serve one another, to love without pride, and to humble ourselves just as He did.
It was such a powerful moment for us, reminding us that following Jesus isn’t just about what we believe—but how we love and serve others.
For anyone without faith who is still reading, know this:
Jesus chose to endure extreme physical torture, intense humiliation, and profound spiritual agony—severe scourging, nails through His body, dehydration, suffocation, and public mockery.
No one took His life - He gave it up.
And the reason why?
For you. For me. For all of us.
So yes, celebrate and have fun in the ways you choose—but don’t ever forget the real reason for this time. Even if you don’t believe… He loves you unconditionally.
Thank you Lord for Your ultimate sacrifice. I pray that more people than ever come to You in these days.
Today, as a family, we’ll be celebrating our Lord—the King of kings, the Messiah in all His glory. Beginning with the carrying of the cross through South Shields, then service and worship at the market place, followed by fellowship, worship, fun, and prayer at Mowbray Park, Sunderland from 12 noon.
We would love to see you there ❤️
