Christ is born! As we heard at Mass today "He is the radiance of the glory of God" (Heb 1:3) and "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it" (Jn 1:5). As Father Francis said in his homily, it is our prayer that this light brings unending joy, laughter, and peace.

His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of His Eminence Vincent Cardinal Nichols as Archbishop of Westminster; Cardinal Nichols submitted his resignation five years ago on his 75th birthday, as is mandatory for bishops, but was asked by the then Pope Francis to continue in his post.

Pope Leo has appointed Bishop Richard Moth to succeed Cardinal Nichols as Archbishop of Westminster and so lead the Catholic Church in England & Wales.

We pray with thanksgiving for the service of Cardinal Nichols and with joyful expectation for Archbishop-Elect Moth. You can read more here:

So rather than looking down at our phones, the Holy Father challenged the students to “instead, look to the sky, to the heights.""

Although addressing students, these words from Pope Leo are relevant to people of all ages who use technology.

Did you know that today marks 175 years since Pope Pius IX restored the Catholic hierarchy to England & Wales centuries after Henry VIII split with Rome? This included the establishment of our Diocese; although the pastoral letter in the below article is aimed at Westminster, the "two dimensions" that H.E. Cardinal Nichols suggests for this celebration are just as relevant to us:

Anniversary of the Restoration of the Catholic Hierarchy in England and Wales - Catholic Bishops' Conference

Monday, 29 September marks the 175 anniversary of Pope Pius IX's 'Universalis Ecclesiae' that restored the Catholic hierarchy.

MSP UK Region Silver Jubilee - Mass at Clifton Cathedral Friday 11 July @ 6:00pm

The Missionary Society of St. Paul of Nigeria are celebrating 25 years of mission in the UK this year. Our parish community has been served by the society since 2010. In fact, Fr Cosmas Ikirodah was the first MSP to be sent to the region, assisting Fr Richard McKay at St Nicholas of Tolentino from 2000 until December 2003, when he was assigned to our sister parish of Our Lady of the Rosary Church Bristol. He became our parish priest under the "Parishes in Communion" initiative until he was transferred to London in October 2021. This transfer was part of a three way move in the region with his fellow MSP, our current parish priest Fr Francis Ezennia, joining us from Surrey.

To give thanks for their service over the past 25 years, Bishop Bosco will be celebrating Mass at the Cathedral next Friday and we are all welcome to attend.
