Children's Group: "I can talk to God when..." series ✝🦁

In our Children’s group, we have been exploring the series “I can talk to God when…”, which has reminded the children that we can talk to God when we feel different emotions. We have been using stories from both the Old and New Testaments to remind the children that God wants us to talk to him when we feel happy or sad, worried or thankful, and that we can be sure that God is listening and cares.

This particular week we looked at “I can talk to God when I feel scared”. Together we heard the story of Daniel in the lions’ den, discovering that despite being scared, Daniel continued to pray to God because he knew God was with him. We learnt that, just like Daniel, we can pray to God whenever we feel frightened, and that God listens to us and cares for us. The children made their own lion masks to display this message and to remind them that we can always talk to God, no matter what we might be feeling.

New Public Defibrillator at St Oswald's Church ✝️

On Wednesday morning, we were delighted to introduce our new safety addition to the Abbeydale and Bannerdale Roads community - the new public-access defibrillator. As a Church community, we felt this was the natural next step in St Oswald’s mission to actively care for and protect its neighbours, by addressing a major UK health emergency.

Thank you so much to two of our councillors for attending this important launch. Thank you, Councillor Lynsey Angell and Councillor Barbara Masters, for attending and supporting us! It was particularly wonderful to hear from Councillor Lynsey Angell about the importance of this safety net for every resident, walker and commuter passing down Abbeydale Road.

Many thanks to Stephen Williams for spearheading this initiative, managing the logistics and seeing it through to completion. We would also like to thank the Community Wellness Services for their continued support of our Welcome Space initiative and for bid writing to enable us to secure the funding for the defib. Thank you to Amber for attending!

Please inform your families, walking groups, and neighbours that there is a 24/7 life-saving device working right here on our Church hall wall! ✝️
