Govardhan Puja day falls the day after Diwali Puja and celebrates the victory of Lord Krishna over Lord Indra.

This day, also known as Annakut Puja, is observed during Pratipada Tithi of the Kartik month. Sometimes, it may coincide with Amavasya depending on the lunar timings.

Devotees prepare and offer a variety of food made from cereals like wheat, rice, gram flour, and leafy vegetables to Lord Krishna as gratitude for His protection and blessings.

🌸*Regional Significance*🌸
In Maharashtra, the same day is celebrated as Bali Pratipada (Bali Padva) marking the victory of Lord Vamana (Vishnu avatar) over King Bali.

It is believed that on this day, King Bali visits the earthly realm (Prithvi Lok) due to a boon granted by Lord Vamana.

🌸*Gujarati New Year*🌸
Govardhan Puja also coincides with the Gujarati New Year, which begins on Shukla Paksha Pratipada of Kartik month. While most Indian calendars begin the year in Chaitra month (celebrated as Gudi Padwa or Yugadi), in Gujarat the year begins today symbolising renewal, prosperity and auspicious beginnings.
