A busy time for all the Friends, Sunday saw Ged, Stephanie and Anne waving off the Darlington Society Manager and Staff on their remembrance walk to Saltburn. This walk and the stall they hve in the Redcr branch selling books and jigsaws all in aid of the repair of Jemima Puddle Duck figure which was targeted by anti social behavior. At the same time Fiona, Dot, Loise and Carole met in the cemetery to plan the planting of the many plants that Jackie community Champion from Tesco gifted to us. This meeting saved time on our gardening morning and gave us a chance to see where they would best be placed.
Tuesday saw the gardening Group planting in different parts of the cemetery. We had help from elders from the Mormon Church. they were from New Zealand and Australia helping too.
Mick a maintenance volunteer applied two coats of varnish to the seats in the sundial buttlefly garden for cremation. A lovely job thank you.
At the same time our new tree trail team Barbara, Soo, Carole and Dawn all volunteer friends from different parts of the group who all have experience of working with children. They are devising activities for the first group of children coming through. We appreciate their input and expertise.
Tuesday seemed a very good day until one of our volunteers stepped in some dog dirt right at the back of the old section. What a disgrace, I felt ashamed after 21 years we have not got the message across not to let dogs roam around the cemetery. No one can help us. I am reluctant even to mention this here as this week I know our 'no dog' sign will be blacked out or damaged. If we talk to people who are bringing dogs in, what a choice mouthful we get. It is not as if there isn't places were dogs can run free.
So all is not well after all our efforts to make this place special.
