🎉 Celebrating Community Spirit in Sonning Common! 🎉

On Monday 18 May, Sonning Common Parish Council held its Annual Parish Meeting, which this year featured the inaugural Sonning Common Recognition Awards – celebrating local people who go above and beyond to make our village a better place.

The event was wonderfully attended, with the village hall full of residents, nominators and nominees. Residents also had the chance to meet 13 fantastic local groups and learn more about the invaluable work they do within our community.

Widmore Pond – Report & FAQs Now Available 💧🌿
We’ve now published the independent hydrological report into Widmore Pond on our website, along with a set of updated Frequently Asked Questions addressing many of the concerns that residents have raised.
The report provides a detailed, evidence‑based understanding of why water levels have changed and outlines possible long‑term solutions.
The FAQs cover key topics including:

Water levels and recent changes
The role of groundwater vs rainfall
The impact on wildlife and fish
Pumping operations and water quality

⛔ Emergency Immediate Road Closure – Wyfold Lane, Rotherfield Peppard, RG4 9HU ⛔

We have been notified by Oxfordshire County Council that an
Emergency ImmediateRoad Closure is in place on Wyfold Lane, to facilitate emergency fire hydrant installation.

📅 Date: Tuesday 19 May 2026 up to and including Thursday 21 May 2026. This is a 24 hour daily road closure.

📍 Location: Wyfold Lane, Rotherfield Peppard, RG4 9HU (Stable Cottage, Road between Wyfold Lane and Wyfold Road)

Limited access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for frontages within the closed section of road, subject to the progress of the works.

Access for pedestrians and residents will be maintained.

Alternative route for traffic:
via Wyfold Lane → Stoke Row Road → Gallowstree Road → Wyfold Lane and vice-versa

🌞 Village Day Needs You! 🌞
Sonning Common Parish Council is looking for a few more friendly faces to help with car parking at Village Day 🚗
It’s a really simple role – helping direct cars and collecting parking donations – and it makes a huge difference to keeping this much-loved community event running (and free to attend!)
🗓 When: Flexible hourly slots between 10:00am – 5:00pm
⏱ You can volunteer for as little as one hour
👥 Work alongside others – no experience needed
😊 Full briefing and support provided
