While I was gathering information for this week’s Facebook updates, I came across a quote displayed on the West Berkshire Foodbank website. It was written by J M Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan. I hope you enjoy reading it.

At the last PCC (Parochial Church Council) meeting it was agreed that we will hold a children’s service every month, on the 3rd Sunday in the month. The first of these services will be held on Sunday 21st June and the plan is that the children will go to the Parish Room where they can enjoy activities together and then come in to church to rejoin their families. All appropriate safeguarding measures will be in place so, if you have any youngsters you think might like to be part of this, please bring them along with you on 21st June at the 10.30 am service.

It’s time for another heartfelt request for your support for the West Berkshire Foodbank. Their list of urgently needed items still stands at 18 so even a 50p tin of tomatoes would be an important contribution. If you can donate anything from this list, please pop it in the white crate just inside the church porch. Thank you.

This Sunday, 31st May, it will be Trinity Sunday when we commemorate the Christian doctrine of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—three persons in one substance. We’ll be holding two Holy Communion services on Sunday:

8.30 am is our spoken service taken from the Book of Common Prayer

10.30 am is our alternative service which includes music and hymns.

After the 10.30 service we’ll be serving coffee in the Parish Room. It would be great if you’re able to join us.

I thought the West Berkshire Foodbank had their longest ever list of urgently needed items 2 weeks ago but this week the list is even longer at 18 items. Even a single donation could make a real difference for a family struggling to feed and care for themselves. Can you make that difference? Anything you can give from this list can be dropped into the white crate inside the church porch. Thank you.

Just because we were at sea yesterday didn’t mean there’s no ‘other church’ photo for you this week. This was the early birds arriving for the church service on board Cunard’s Queen Anne. The service is alway multi-denominational so involves some words we are not familiar with but it is totally inclusive and a delight.

This Sunday, 24th May, is Pentecost, when we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus, an event that empowered them to begin spreading the Gospel. Here at St Mary’s we’ll be celebrating with 3 services:

8.30 am is our spoken Holy Communion service taken from the Book of Common Prayer and then at

9.30 am we have our Matins service before

10.30 am when we have our alternative Holy Communion service, this one with both music and hymns.

As is custom for us, we’ll be serving coffee in the Parish Room after the 10.30 service. You are very welcome to come and join us.
