For those who cannot get to a church building, miss the fellowship or simply not sure about church. We have no church building and are led by the Revd Claire Simpson, and are a totally online church. Using the Zoom format we have built up a Christian community enabling those who cannot get to church to be part of a fellowship and worship group where we can see, talk together and worship. It is als

o useful for those not sure to experience church as an anonymise visitor. We have members from across the country and abroad, yet we are small enough that we can experience true friendship and fellowship. Find out more about us and the link to our meetings at

Prayer for week

God of compassion, we hold before you our troubled world. We see so many examples of hostility. We know of breakdowns in family relationships; of suspicion of people who come from different races; of disapproval of different life choices or lifestyles; of conflict over political choices and of escalation of these differences, resulting in terrifying wars on a global level.

History tells us that differences can be resolved by negotiation and compromise. We can achieve much by trying to see life from the perspective of those who seem different from ourselves. Help us to replace fear by understanding, hatred by compassion and arrogance by humility.

In the name of Jesus Amen.

Can’t get to church and missing the fellowship and worship?
The Church of the Living Stream can help. It is totally online enabling those who cannot get to church to still be involved in the Service and our fellowship.

Our Sunday Service is via Zoom, enabling everyone to join us with a chat before the service where our members take part in the readings and prayers. Open to all, with no commitment or church membership required.

Thought for week

How pleasant it has been to revert to more temperate conditions! Life has been much more comfortable and sleeping more restful than it was through most of the summer. How encouraging to see the resilience of some of the plants that appeared to have withered but have blossomed again on so little rain! Of course we are a long way from full recovery and the water situation is still serious..

This time of year brings a sense of change; of new beginnings. Parliament returns, the political parties hold their conferences, a new academic year begins and the retail trade embraces its new opportunities in Halloween and Christmas. Let’s hope we can celebrate the positive and not be downhearted by the massive problems which are undoubtedly ahead.

Prayer for week

Inspiring and guiding God, thank you for communicating with us in so many different ways. We are grateful for the Bible which contains so many examples of the way you have led people through the ages. We recognise the contribution of the prophets throughout time. We hold on to the message which Jesus brought and for which he died and rose again.

Help us to listen to what you would have us do in the place in which we live and function. Give us the discipline to test out your signals through study and prayer and to further your purpose here on earth.

Prayer for week

Father God, thank you for creating all people in your image, but making us all different. We differ in appearance, age, gender and talents. We are thankful for the things we can do, but are also grateful to those people who can do things we cannot do. Thank you for people who think creatively, ask questions and come up with answers which enable new developments.

Prevent us from feeling fear of people who are different from ourselves. If we find ourselves disagreeing with other people, help us to consider what motivates them and how they fit into your plans for the future. Above all help us to follow the example of Jesus in welcoming all people as our brothers and sisters.

Thought for week

Many of us seek the reassurance of constancy. We enjoy knowing what to expect and seek confirmation that all is well and will continue to be so. Hence the popularity of horoscopes and fortune tellers.. Change can seem like a threat.

However, recent events suggest that change is inevitable. Nature is in a constant turmoil and natural events can bring chaos in their wake. It is worth remembering that change can be positive as well as negative. Some of the most important medical developments, notably the discovery of penicillin, have happened by accident, by someone noticing accidental change and exploring what it meant.

May we learn to be resilient and to make the best of the opportunities that life offers.

Thought for week

We live in a world of extremes. This week seems to be pulling all the extremes together. Temperatures continue to rise in Western Europe, drought conditions predominate, wild fires spread uncontrollably, record rainfall has paralysed the area around Tokyo, there was yet another earthquake in Colombia, examination results peak yet again and to cap it all the predicted total eclipse of the sun drew massive crowds for the event of a lifetime.

It is difficult to know how to respond to all this. We have a view of the whole world, but each of us occupies only a small part of it. All we can do is to respond on a day to day basis and to seek to help all those we can along the way.

Thought for week

As the hot weather continues to sap our energy and reduce well-tended gardens to yellow deserts in which only the weeds thrive, our complacency and confidence is dented. We have lived in an era when much progress has been possible and it has seemed as if we are masters of the universe. Now the raging fires in western Europe which have also impacted on Scotland and East Anglia are a salutary reminder of the power of nature and how insignificant we are as a species.

We should learn from this that all on this planet are interdependent and we should seek ways to protect the environment and each other for the sake of our descendants.

Thought for week

One of the dangers of living in a developed society is the ready availability of processed food coupled with an advertising industry which tells us to indulge because we are ‘worth it’. This contrasts markedly with those of our fellow humans who live close to the reality of subsistence farming and struggle to maintain a healthy diet.

It is incumbent on us, as people with global awareness and some spare resources to direct some of our plenty to those without the ability to help themselves.

After what was probably the most entertaining match of this world cup, how great was it to see the players from both sides join in prayer. OK, it was not a game of great pressure, except pride, but there were no red or yellow cards yet a competitive event – particularly the second half. Yet there was this public demonstration of faith.
Talking about public expression of our Faith, next Sunday we will be celebration Holy Communion online, to which everyone is welcome. If you wish to join us in this celebration, just bring some bread and a drink to your screen. Not sure, just join us anonymously and see if it is for you. Be sure of a great welcome!

Thought for week beginning 13 July 2026

We come to a time of year when in many areas things are drawing to a close In the sporting world, Wimbledon is over and the World Cup Fifa championship is reaching its climax. The academic year is also about to end and a holiday period beckons for staff and students alike.. This year the parliamentary recess brings an unprecedented change of Prime Minister without election.

As the summer proceeds let us hope that good nature will prevail despite punishing weather conditions. May we all enjoy relaxation, but not drop our guard or expose ourselves to danger. May we keep an eye on the safety of others as we embrace the holiday atmosphere.
