On Saturday 16th May 2026, St. Mary's JSOC South London celebrated the Feast of the Virgin Mary for the crops. It was a blessed day for all the faithful who participated in the prayer & intercession of St.Mary.⁣ 🙏

The Feast of the Virgin Mary for the crops, also known as Hido d'Yoldath Aloho Hal S'heble (or Hido d-Yoldas Aloho d-al Shablo) is observed annually on May 15th in the Syriac Orthodox liturgical calendar. ⁣
⁣
The term s'heble (or shablo) translates to "ears of corn" or "wheat," signifying the harvest that will ultimately provide the grain for the Eucharist.⁣
⁣
St. Ephrem the Syrian and other early church poets beautifully likened the Virgin Mary to the "good earth" that received the divine grain (Jesus Christ) in her womb. As such, this feast is a time for the faithful to give thanks for creation and pray for the labor of their hands.⁣
