β€œAnd it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.” (Luke 24:15)

On the day of the glorious resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ two of his disciples travelled from Jerusalem to the village of Emmaus, a distance of seven and a half miles, and as they walked, they were talking about all the things that had just happened in Jerusalem. Jesus had been arrested by the religious leaders, put to death on a cross by Pontus Pilate and then buried in a sepulchre, and now there were reports that he was alive! As they discussed what all these things meant the risen Lord Jesus Christ joined them on their journey, and we are told that they did not recognise him initially because their eyes were powerfully restrained.

Good Friday…

Today we stand at the foot of the cross, remembering the immeasurable cost of our redemption.

The sinless Son of God gave Himself for us. In sorrow for our sin, yet filled with gratitude for His mercy, we bow before Christ crucified.

β€œIt is finished.” (John 19:30) πŸ“–

May this solemn day lead us into quiet reflection, deep reverence, and heartfelt thanksgiving.

The death of the Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled Old Testament prophecy,

β€œBut he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:5-9)
