Behold!! An Event Announcement!!!!!

For our prophesied 5th week event. we are holding a round-the-world cake extravaganza for those of you who wish to briefly escape England's bland and pleasant lands... bake and bring something from your culture, and partake of the world's delights in the promised land of one of Mansfield's seminar rooms.

We'll be posting some inspiration and recipes on our stories over the next few days to inspire and delight, and if that weren't enough of an indulgence, then Balkan Soc will also be present and providing their famous burek to tempt you on crusade.

See you there!

Are you left acquainted with grief after the sad demise of The Second Ecumenical Baking Soc Picnic (Picnic II)? Well never fear, for a new event has come down from on high!

The Bakeoff Final is upon us, dear friends. And you too may witness it with us, in the Mansfield Auditorium.

Please book a free ticket at this link because we have sadly limited capacity: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gbbo-final-watch-party-tickets-461936413247

Gentle reminder that you are not allowed to bring food, so any bakeoff-related bakes should be conveyed directly to the Baking Soc inbox/DMs for digital communion (also known as posting on our socials).

Missed out on our last event? Good news! Another has been announced!

This one goes out to all the cake-bakers and social justice warriors among you- a bake sale run by the Oxford Human Rights Hub to raise money for the London Legal Support Trust, which supplies legal aid and promotes access to justice.

All you have to do to participate is bring your bake to the foyer of the St Cross Building in the morning of the 8th of November (before 9am), and let the volunteers take it from there. Can't bake? Go and buy something! It's all for a good cause!

There will also be prizes available, including Best Themed Cake, Tastiest Looking Cake, and Best Overall Cake. The theme is around "the 4-dimensional framework to realise Substantive Equality", or other justice-related concepts (don't ask me, I do a fake subject).

Looking forward to seeing your wonderful productions there! Send me pictures to receive a blessing and a dedicated mention on our socials!

Hark! Introducing our latest Committee member- Joe, our Chief Engineer. What does he do? "Fix stuff". We're not sure what, but in case something needs fixing, he is here. He and his water-based brownies (pictured) are the winner of our Chef Mike award from our Trinity picnic.

In the wake of the sad news that Ayeza has departed (in peace) after a year of dedicated service and emails, and the subsequent round of most worthy and competitive applications, our sp'rits may rejoice once more.

I syng of a mayden that is makeles.... our sparkly new Secretary, Amy!

When she’s not studying Law at Pembroke, Amy can usually be found covered in flour from her latest brioche-based experiments. Apart from baking, she loves hiking (and inventing new bakes to take for picnics), knitting, and curating a seemingly endless collection of Mary Berry reaction gifs.

Amy, welcome to the Baking Soc cult. Cult members, prepare your inboxes for her first proclamations. And those of you who want to see her in person... come to our joint social with the Midlanders Society tonight!

Behold, the announcement for our 3rd week event!

The Oxford Midlanders Society has very kindly agreed to host us at Worcester College this coming Thursday for a bakery potluck-style social- sweet, savoury, regionally appropriate bakes*.... Argue over the correct pronunciation of scone, bond over sugar, breach the north/south/midlands divide.

Any bakes are welcome, new bakers and veteran pastry chefs alike. Stuck for inspiration on what to bring? Have a look through our website, or our socials to see what we've baked in the past.

Thanks again to the Midlanders' Society- we hope this Thursday will bring you a warm, morale-boosting evening to look forward to amid the essays and darkening winter evenings.

*if you are aware of any regionally appropriate bakes, please do drop me a message. I am but a poor sheltered Londoner and have never ventured further north than Cambridge.

Next up of our holiday bakes: a marvellous first attempt at scones from Merton's very own Diana Foghis. Are they not literally the most adorable scones you have ever seen (no matter how you pronounce them). Diana, Saint Mary Berry is proud of you, and your sexy flower background is brightening up our feeds and our days.
