Last night Joanne and I had the pleasure of visiting Langley Park Golf Club for an LAFD meeting… such a lovely venue 🌿⛳️

There were a number of great speakers including Darryl Smith President of the NAFD and a truly inspiring talk from Nishma and Ellie from the Royal Alexandra & Albert School in Surrey. Their work supporting children from age 7, particularly those who have experienced the bereavement of a parent, is nothing short of incredible. The care, structure and nurturing environment they provide right through to sixth form leads to some amazing success stories.

A huge thank you to Karen Rattigan, Chair of LAFD Southern Region, for organising such a great evening.

Grief can feel very different depending on where you are… and who you’re with 🤍

One moment, she stands alone in the cold rain, beside a headstone… quiet, still, and heavy with memories. The world feels distant, and the weight of loss is hers to carry alone.

Another moment, she’s inside Brightwater Memorial Park, surrounded by warmth, comfort, and the gentle presence of family. A cup of tea in her hands, shared stories, soft laughter… and the space to remember together.

Because remembrance doesn’t have to mean isolation. It can be connection. Support. Togetherness.

At Brightwater Memorial Park, we believe in creating places where memories are shared, not carried alone.

THE FUTURE OF BURIAL

As the UK continues to face increasing pressure on available land, it’s becoming clear that we need to rethink how we approach burial.

Traditional burial space is running out, particularly in urban areas, and this challenge will only grow in the years ahead. Mausolea offer a sustainable, respectful, and space efficient alternative that aligns with the needs of modern society.

Far from being a new concept, mausolea have been used for centuries around the world. Today, they provide a dignified and lasting memorial option while making far better use of limited land. They also offer families a clean, accessible, and enduring place to remember their loved ones.

At Brightwater, we are proud to be home to the UK’s first and only indoor mausoleum of its type. We are not only addressing the challenge of limited burial space, but also changing the way families are cared for after bereavement. By providing a sheltered, and thoughtfully designed environment, we are transforming the experience of visiting loved ones, offering comfort, dignity, and year-round accessibility.

It’s time for a broader conversation about the future of burial in the UK. Embracing mausolea is not just practical, it’s a forward-thinking solution to a very real and pressing issue.

Happy Mother’s Day 💐

Today we celebrate the incredible mums and mother figures who bring love, strength, and kindness to our lives every day.

We’re also thinking of those who can’t be with their mums today through loss or distance, and the mothers who carry the unimaginable loss of a child in their hearts. 💛

This year we are delighted to say that once again we will be holding our quiet Christmas carol service and remembrance evening at the beautiful St Giles The Abbot church, in Farnborough Village.

The service will take place this Tuesday the 16th of December, beginning at 8pm. There will be light refreshments served afterwards for anyone who would like to stay.

Everyone is welcome, and we would really love to see as many of our families as possible come together in remembrance of those loved ones who can not be with us, and to light a candle in their memory.
