St George in the Meadows Nottingham

St George in the Meadows Nottingham St George's is an Anglo-Catholic church serving the western part of the Meadows and the wider city.

We are a warm, welcoming and diverse congregation, dedicated to making the love of Christ known in our community and beyond. St George’s is an Anglo-Catholic parish church, situated in the Meadows area of Nottingham, and just a few minutes walk from the train station and city centre. We are always pleased to welcome new worshippers and visitors, especially parents with children. Worshipping in a t

raditional style with a modern rite, we seek to encounter God through the sacraments of the Church universal. We strive to preach, teach and live the Catholic faith as the Church of England has received it. Part of the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham, St George’s is a parish of The Society, under the pastoral and sacramental care of the Bishop of Beverley. We also have close links with the Sisters at Holy Cross Convent, Costock. Since 1 February 2025 we have been in interregnum, with Fr Lee Dunleavy serving as our Curate, jointly with St Cyprian's Church, Nottingham. During this time our daily Mass schedule has been temporarily reduced to: Wednesdays 10am, Fridays Noon, Sundays 11am.

Last night five of the six churchwardens of The Society churches in Nottingham (St. George’s Netherfield, St George in the Meadows, and us), alongside Father Lee, visited Southwell Minster to be sworn in for service in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham. Alas, one was on a well-earned holiday else we'd have had the full set in one photo!

Our roses and other flora looks wonderful at this time of year, with huge thanks to our volunteer grounds and gardening team. Do take a look around the car park and in the front garden before Mass today at Noon, celebrated by Bishop Roger, with Fr Lee is at the Convent this morning.

We love sharing stories about our thriving ministry with children, young people, and our student cohort. But it is no less a joy to celebrate with those who reach a ninetieth birthday - and on Pentecost to boot! Happy Birthday, Joan!

Join us for Mass tomorrow (Friday) at Noon and on Sunday at 11.00am. Friday's Mass is short and simple, lasting no more than half an hour. On Sunday we have joyful organ music, stirring hymns, and preaching from our own Bishop Roger!

This Sunday and next there is no Junior Church, to allow our Junior Church leaders a couple of weeks to be with their own families and worship together in church. We give thanks for their dedication and ministry!

Alongside our friends from Saint Cyprian's, we had a splendid pilgrimage to The Shrine of Our Lady of Egmanton today. Huge thanks to our drivers, Father Lee and Sally, to Bishop Luke and Fathers Dixon and Spicer, and to all who made us so welcome.

Throughout Eastertide at our 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟭.𝟬𝟬𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀 we begin with the Rite of Sprinkling. This rite recalls our Baptism, by which we were cleansed from sin and given new life in Christ. During this we sing this setting of the "Vidi Aquam", the traditional Easter text for this rite.

Our Curate was delighted to be at Fr Nicolas' Ordination last night, in the church where Father Lee served as Director of Music for a number of years. As you can see, the choir is still going strong, and a wonderful way to bring a large number of young people into faith.
