Matthew 8 -Part 3 ✍️: Faith in the Storm 🌊

From Matthew 8:23–34

Jesus got into a boat, and His disciples followed Him.
Suddenly, a fierce storm arose on the sea. Waves crashed over the boat, and fear gripped the hearts of the disciples.
Yet Jesus was asleep.
In panic they cried out:
“Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Jesus answered:
“Why are you afraid, you of little faith?”
Then He rose, rebuked the winds and the waves, and there was a great calm.
The disciples were amazed and asked:
“What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the sea obey Him!”
When they reached the other side, they encountered two demon-possessed men. Their lives were bound by darkness, fear, and destruction.
With a single command, Jesus set them free.
The people of the region witnessed His power, yet instead of welcoming Him, they asked Him to leave.
Matthew 8 closes with a powerful contrast:
The disciples feared the storm.
The demons feared Jesus.
The townspeople feared the change He brought.
But through it all, Jesus remained Lord over every situation.
He is Lord over nature.�He is Lord over evil.�He is Lord over every fear that seeks to control our hearts.
How often are we like the disciples?
We trust Jesus when the waters are calm, but question Him when the storms arise.
How often are we like the townspeople?
We pray for God to work, yet become uncomfortable when His work challenges our priorities.
Faith is not believing that storms will never come.
Faith is trusting that Jesus is in the boat with us when they do.
The same voice that calmed the sea still speaks peace to troubled hearts today.
The same Savior who delivered the oppressed still has power to break every chain.
The same Lord who crossed the sea for two forgotten men still seeks those whom others have given up on.
Thought for today:
Storms reveal where our faith rests.
When waves rise and answers seem distant, remember:
The presence of Jesus is greater than the power of the storm.
If He is in the boat, you are never alone.
Trust Him in the wind.�Trust Him in the waiting.�Trust Him in the unknown.
For the One who commands the seas also holds your life securely in His hands.

മത്തായി 8 – ഭാഗം 3 ✍️: കൊടുങ്കാറ്റിലെ വിശ്വാസം 🌊

മത്തായി 8:23–34 അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി

യേശു പടകിൽ കയറി; ശിഷ്യന്മാരും അവിടുത്തെ അനുഗമിച്ചു.
പെട്ടെന്ന് കടലിൽ വലിയ കൊടുങ്കാറ്റ് ഉണ്ടായി. തിരമാലകൾ പടകിന്മേൽ അടിച്ചുകയറി. ശിഷ്യന്മാരുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളിൽ ഭയം നിറഞ്ഞു.
എന്നാൽ യേശു ഉറങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു.
ഭയന്ന അവർ നിലവിളിച്ചു:
“കർത്താവേ, ഞങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിക്കണമേ! ഞങ്ങൾ നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നു!”
യേശു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു:
“അല്പവിശ്വാസികളേ, നിങ്ങൾ എന്തിന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു?”
പിന്നീട് അവിടുന്ന് എഴുന്നേറ്റ് കാറ്റിനെയും കടലിനെയും ശാസിച്ചു. ഉടനെ വലിയ ശാന്തത ഉണ്ടായി.
ശിഷ്യന്മാർ അത്ഭുതപ്പെട്ടു പറഞ്ഞു:
“കാറ്റും കടലും പോലും അനുസരിക്കുന്ന ഈ മനുഷ്യൻ ആരാണ്?”
അക്കരെ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ, ഭൂതബാധിതരായ രണ്ട് മനുഷ്യരെ അവർ കണ്ടുമുട്ടി. അവരുടെ ജീവിതം ഇരുളും ബന്ധനവും നാശവും നിറഞ്ഞതായിരുന്നു.
എന്നാൽ യേശുവിന്റെ ഒരു കല്പന മതി; അവർ വിടുതൽ പ്രാപിച്ചു.
ആ പ്രദേശത്തെ ജനങ്ങൾ യേശുവിന്റെ ശക്തി കണ്ടു. എന്നാൽ അവനെ സ്വാഗതം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനുപകരം, അവരുടെ പ്രദേശം വിട്ടുപോകാൻ അഭ്യർത്ഥിച്ചു.
മത്തായി 8 ഒരു ഗൗരവമേറിയ സത്യത്തോടെ അവസാനിക്കുന്നു:
ശിഷ്യന്മാർ കൊടുങ്കാറ്റിനെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.
ഭൂതങ്ങൾ യേശുവിനെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.
നാട്ടുകാർ യേശു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന മാറ്റത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.
എന്നാൽ എല്ലാറ്റിനുമുപരി യേശു കർത്താവായി നിലകൊണ്ടു.
പ്രകൃതിയിന്മേലും അവിടുത്തെ അധികാരമുണ്ട്.
തിന്മയിന്മേലും അവിടുത്തെ അധികാരമുണ്ട്.
നമ്മുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ പിടിച്ചുകെട്ടുന്ന എല്ലാ ഭയങ്ങളിന്മേലും അവിടുത്തെ അധികാരമുണ്ട്.
നാം എത്രയോ പ്രാവശ്യം ശിഷ്യന്മാരെപ്പോലെയാകുന്നു!
ജീവിതം ശാന്തമായിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു; കൊടുങ്കാറ്റ് വരുമ്പോൾ സംശയിക്കുന്നു.
നാം എത്രയോ പ്രാവശ്യം ആ നാട്ടുകാരെപ്പോലെയാകുന്നു!
ദൈവം പ്രവർത്തിക്കണമെന്ന് പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാൽ അവിടുത്തെ പ്രവർത്തനം നമ്മുടെ സൗകര്യങ്ങളെ വെല്ലുവിളിക്കുമ്പോൾ പിന്നോട്ടുപോകുന്നു.
വിശ്വാസം എന്നത് കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുകൾ വരില്ലെന്ന് കരുതുന്നതല്ല.
കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുകൾ വന്നാലും യേശു നമ്മോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നതാണ്.
കടലിനെ ശാന്തമാക്കിയ അതേ ശബ്ദം ഇന്നും കലങ്ങിയ ഹൃദയങ്ങളോട് സമാധാനം സംസാരിക്കുന്നു.
ബന്ധനങ്ങൾ തകർത്ത അതേ രക്ഷകൻ ഇന്നും വിടുതൽ നൽകുന്നു.
മറ്റുള്ളവർ മറന്നുപോയവരെ തേടി കടൽ കടന്ന അതേ കർത്താവ് ഇന്നും ഓരോരുത്തരെയും അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നു.
ഇന്നത്തെ ചിന്ത:
കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുകൾ നമ്മുടെ വിശ്വാസം എവിടെയാണ് ഉറച്ചുനിൽക്കുന്നതെന്ന് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.
തിരമാലകൾ ഉയരുമ്പോഴും ഉത്തരങ്ങൾ വൈകുന്നതുപോലെ തോന്നുമ്പോഴും ഓർക്കുക:
യേശുവിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം ഏതു കൊടുങ്കാറ്റിനേക്കാളും വലുതാണ്.
അവിടുന്ന് പടകിലുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ, നിങ്ങൾ ഒരിക്കലും ഒറ്റയാളല്ല.
കാറ്റിൽ അവിടുത്തെ വിശ്വസിക്കൂ.�കാത്തിരിപ്പിൽ അവിടുത്തെ വിശ്വസിക്കൂ.�അറിയാത്ത നാളെയിലും അവിടുത്തെ വിശ്വസിക്കൂ.
കാരണം കടലിനെ കല്പിക്കുന്നവൻ നിങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതത്തെയും തന്റെ കൈകളിൽ സുരക്ഷിതമായി പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

Matthew 8 – Part 2 ✍️: The Touch That Restores 🙌

From Matthew 8:14–22

Jesus entered Peter’s house and saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. He touched her hand, and the fever left her. She got up and began to serve Him.

Later that evening, crowds gathered around Jesus. The sick were healed. The oppressed were delivered. Matthew reminds us:

“He took up our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

In the midst of these miracles, two men spoke about following Jesus.

One eagerly declared,
“Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”

Another wanted to follow, but first asked for time to fulfill other responsibilities.

Jesus answered with words that still challenge us today:

“Follow Me.”

Matthew 8 shows us that Jesus not only has power to heal; He also calls us to discipleship.

Peter’s mother-in-law did not merely receive healing—she responded with service.

The enthusiastic scribe learned that following Jesus involves sacrifice.

The hesitant disciple discovered that delayed obedience is still disobedience.

Healing is not the destination; transformation is.

How often do we seek God’s hand but hesitate to surrender our hearts?

* We want His comfort but avoid His calling.
* We desire His blessings but resist His direction.
* We celebrate His miracles but struggle with commitment.

Yet Jesus continues to invite us:

“Follow Me.”

Thought for today:
The touch of Jesus restores us, not simply so we can return to our old lives, but so we can rise and live for Him.

Grace received becomes service offered.
Healing experienced becomes discipleship embraced.

“Follow Me.”

പത്രോസിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ യേശു പ്രവേശിച്ചപ്പോൾ, പത്രോസിന്റെ അമ്മായിയമ്മ പനിയേറ്റ് കിടക്കുന്നതായി അവിടുന്ന് കണ്ടു. യേശു അവളുടെ കൈ തൊട്ടു; പനി വിട്ടുമാറി. അവൾ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് അവിടുത്തെ ശുശ്രൂഷ ചെയ്തു.

ആ സായാഹ്നത്തിൽ അനേകർ യേശുവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വന്നു. രോഗികൾ സൗഖ്യം പ്രാപിച്ചു. പീഡിതർ വിടുതൽ നേടി. അപ്പോൾ മത്തായി നമ്മെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നു:

“അവൻ നമ്മുടെ ബലഹീനതകൾ ഏറ്റെടുത്തു; നമ്മുടെ രോഗങ്ങൾ വഹിച്ചു.”

ഈ അത്ഭുതങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽ രണ്ട് ആളുകൾ യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് സംസാരിച്ചു.

ഒരുവൻ ആവേശത്തോടെ പറഞ്ഞു:

“കർത്താവേ, അങ്ങ് പോകുന്നിടത്തെല്ലാം ഞാൻ അങ്ങയെ അനുഗമിക്കും.”

മറ്റൊരുവൻ അനുഗമിക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചെങ്കിലും ആദ്യം ചില കാര്യങ്ങൾ തീർക്കാൻ സമയം ചോദിച്ചു.

യേശുവിന്റെ മറുപടി ഇന്നും നമ്മെ വെല്ലുവിളിക്കുന്നു:

“എന്നെ അനുഗമിക്ക.”

മത്തായി 8 നമ്മെ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് യേശുവിന് സൗഖ്യമാക്കാനുള്ള ശക്തി മാത്രമല്ല, ശിഷ്യത്വത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വിളിയും ഉണ്ടെന്നാണ്.

പത്രോസിന്റെ അമ്മായിയമ്മ സൗഖ്യം മാത്രം പ്രാപിച്ചില്ല; അവൾ ശുശ്രൂഷിക്കാൻ എഴുന്നേറ്റു.

ആവേശഭരിതനായ ശാസ്ത്രി, യേശുവിനെ അനുഗമിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ വില മനസ്സിലാക്കി.

മടിച്ചുനിന്ന ശിഷ്യൻ, വൈകിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അനുസരണം അനുസരണമല്ലെന്ന് പഠിച്ചു.

സൗഖ്യം അവസാന ലക്ഷ്യമല്ല; രൂപാന്തരമാണ്.

ഇന്നും നാം പലപ്പോഴും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കൈ തേടുമ്പോൾ ഹൃദയം സമർപ്പിക്കാൻ മടിക്കുന്നു.

• അവിടുത്തെ ആശ്വാസം നമുക്ക് വേണം, പക്ഷേ വിളിയെ ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ നാം ശ്രമിക്കുന്നു.
• അനുഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ നമുക്ക് ഇഷ്ടമാണ്, പക്ഷേ മാർഗനിർദേശം സ്വീകരിക്കാൻ മടിക്കുന്നു.
• അത്ഭുതങ്ങൾ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു, എന്നാൽ പ്രതിബദ്ധതയിൽ പിന്നോട്ടുപോകുന്നു.

എന്നിരുന്നാലും യേശുവിന്റെ ക്ഷണം ഇന്നും അതേപോലെയാണ്:

“എന്നെ അനുഗമിക്ക.”

ഇന്നത്തെ ചിന്ത:

യേശുവിന്റെ സ്പർശനം നമ്മെ പഴയ ജീവിതത്തിലേക്ക് മടങ്ങാൻ വേണ്ടിയല്ല പുനഃസ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നത്; അവിടുത്തെക്കായി എഴുന്നേറ്റ് ജീവിക്കാനാണ്.

ലഭിച്ച കൃപ ശുശ്രൂഷയായി മാറട്ടെ.
അനുഭവിച്ച സൗഖ്യം ശിഷ്യത്വമായി വിരിയട്ടെ.

“എന്നെ അനുഗമിക്ക.”

Matthew 8 – Part 1: Faith That Draws Near🙌

From Matthew 8:1–13

The l***r came with a desperate plea:
“Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”

The centurion came with humble confidence:
“Lord, I am not worthy… But just say the word.”

Two very different people.
One was rejected by society.
The other was respected by society.
Yet both discovered the same truth:

Jesus responds to faith, not status.

The l***r did not doubt Christ’s power; he wondered about His willingness.
The centurion did not question Christ’s willingness; he trusted His authority.

How often do we stand between these two questions?

* “Will God really care about someone like me?”
* “Can I trust His word even when I cannot see the outcome?”

Matthew 8 reminds us that faith is not having all the answers. Faith is simply bringing our need to Jesus and believing that He is both willing and able.

Thought for today:
The distance between our brokenness and God’s miracle is often bridged by simple, humble faith.

“Lord, just say the word.”

കുഷ്ഠരോഗി യേശുവിനോട് അപേക്ഷിച്ചു:

“കർത്താവേ, അങ്ങേക്കു മനസ്സുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ എന്നെ ശുദ്ധനാക്കുവാൻ കഴിയും.”

ശതാധിപൻ വിനയത്തോടെ പറഞ്ഞു:

“കർത്താവേ, ഞാൻ അർഹനല്ല… എന്നാൽ ഒരു വാക്ക് കല്പിച്ചാൽ മതി.”

രണ്ട് വ്യത്യസ്ത വ്യക്തികൾ.
ഒരുവൻ സമൂഹത്താൽ തള്ളപ്പെട്ടവൻ.
മറ്റൊരുവൻ സമൂഹത്തിൽ ബഹുമാനിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ.

എന്നാൽ ഇരുവരും ഒരേ സത്യം മനസ്സിലാക്കി:

യേശു പ്രതികരിക്കുന്നത് നമ്മുടെ പദവിയോടല്ല, വിശ്വാസത്തോടാണ്.

കുഷ്ഠരോഗി യേശുവിന്റെ ശക്തിയെ സംശയിച്ചില്ല;
അവൻ ചോദിച്ചത് യേശുവിന്റെ മനസ്സിനെക്കുറിച്ചായിരുന്നു.

ശതാധിപൻ യേശുവിന്റെ മനസ്സിനെ സംശയിച്ചില്ല;
അവൻ യേശുവിന്റെ അധികാരത്തിൽ പൂർണ്ണമായി വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

ഇന്നും നമ്മുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ ഈ രണ്ട് ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഉയരാറുണ്ട്:

* “എന്നെപ്പോലുള്ള ഒരാളെ ദൈവം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുമോ?”
* “ഫലം കാണാതെ തന്നെ അവിടുത്തെ വചനത്തിൽ ഞാൻ വിശ്വസിക്കുമോ?”

മത്തായി 8 നമ്മെ ഓർമ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് ഇതാണ്:
വിശ്വാസം എന്നത് എല്ലാ ഉത്തരങ്ങളും അറിയുന്നതല്ല; നമ്മുടെ ആവശ്യങ്ങളുമായി യേശുവിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരികയും, അവിടുന്ന് മനസ്സുള്ളവനും കഴിവുള്ളവനും ആണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുകയുമാണ്.

ഇന്നത്തെ ചിന്ത:
നമ്മുടെ തകർച്ചയും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അത്ഭുതവും തമ്മിലുള്ള അകലം, വിനയമുള്ള ലളിതമായ വിശ്വാസം പാലമാകുമ്പോൾ ഇല്ലാതാകുന്നു.

“കർത്താവേ, ഒരു വാക്ക് കല്പിച്ചാൽ മതി.”

The Gate, the Profession, and the Rock

(Matthew 7:21–29)

യേശു പറയുന്നു: “കർത്താവേ, കർത്താവേ എന്നു എന്നോടു പറയുന്ന ഏവനും സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യത്തിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കയില്ല; സ്വർഗ്ഗസ്ഥനായ എന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം ചെയ്യുന്നവനത്രേ പ്രവേശിക്കും” (വ.21).

ഇവിടെ യേശു ഒരു അസ്വസ്ഥമാക്കുന്ന സത്യം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു: വാക്കുകൾ മാത്രം മതിയല്ല. വിശ്വാസത്തിന്റെ അവകാശവാദം അനുസരണയാൽ തെളിയിക്കപ്പെടണം. അധരങ്ങൾ കർത്താവിനെ ഏറ്റുപറയാം; എന്നാൽ ഹൃദയം അവിടുത്തെ ഇഷ്ടത്തിന് കീഴടങ്ങിയിരിക്കണമെന്നില്ല. ക്രിസ്തീയത ഒരു തിരിച്ചറിയൽ ചിഹ്നമല്ല; അത് അനുസരണയുടെ ജീവിതമാണ്.

പിന്നീട് യേശു പലരുടെയും അതിശയിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വാക്കുകൾ ഉദ്ധരിക്കുന്നു: “ഞങ്ങൾ നിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ പ്രവചിച്ചില്ലയോ? ഭൂതങ്ങളെ പുറത്താക്കിയില്ലയോ? അനേകം ശക്തിപ്രവൃത്തികൾ ചെയ്തില്ലയോ?” (വ.22). എന്നാൽ യേശുവിന്റെ മറുപടി ഭയാനകമാണ്: “ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ ഒരുനാളും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല” (വ.23).

ഇവിടെ വീണ്ടും ഒരു വലിയ വ്യത്യാസം കാണാം: ശുശ്രൂഷയും ബന്ധവും ഒരുപോലെയല്ല. ദൈവത്തിനുവേണ്ടി പല കാര്യങ്ങളും ചെയ്യാം; എന്നാൽ ദൈവത്തോടൊപ്പം നടക്കാതെ പോകാനും കഴിയും. ആത്മീയ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ എല്ലായ്പ്പോഴും ആത്മീയ പക്വതയുടെ തെളിവല്ല. ദൈവം നമ്മുടെ നേട്ടങ്ങളെക്കാൾ നമ്മെ അറിയുന്ന ബന്ധത്തെയാണ് അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നത്.

അവസാനമായി യേശു രണ്ട് വീടുകളുടെ ഉപമ പറയുന്നു. ഒരാൾ തന്റെ വീട് പാറമേൽ പണിതു; മറ്റൊരാൾ മണലിന്മേൽ പണിതു. രണ്ടുപേരും യേശുവിന്റെ വചനങ്ങൾ കേട്ടു. രണ്ടുപേരുടെയും ജീവിതത്തിലേക്ക് മഴയും പ്രളയവും കാറ്റും വന്നു. വ്യത്യാസം കൊടുങ്കാറ്റിലായിരുന്നില്ല; അടിത്തറയിലായിരുന്നു.

യേശുവിന്റെ വചനങ്ങൾ കേട്ട് അവ അനുസരിക്കുന്നവൻ പാറമേൽ പണിയുന്ന ജ്ഞാനിയാണ്. കേട്ടിട്ടും അനുസരിക്കാത്തവൻ മണലിന്മേൽ പണിയുന്ന ഭോഷനാണ്. ജീവിതത്തിലെ പരീക്ഷണങ്ങൾ നമ്മുടെ അടിത്തറയെ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തും. കൊടുങ്കാറ്റുകൾ വിശ്വാസം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുന്നില്ല; അത് എന്തിന്മേലാണ് നമ്മുടെ വിശ്വാസം പണിതിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് പ്രകടമാക്കുകയാണ്.

അവസാനം മത്തായി 7 നമ്മോടൊരു ചോദ്യം ചോദിക്കുന്നു: നമ്മുടെ ജീവിതം ഏത് അടിത്തറയിലാണു നിൽക്കുന്നത്? കർത്താവേ എന്നു പറയുന്ന അധരങ്ങളിലോ, കർത്താവിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടം ചെയ്യുന്ന ഹൃദയത്തിലോ? മണലിൽ പണിത ഒരു മതപരമായ രൂപത്തിലോ, പാറയായ ക്രിസ്തുവിന്മേൽ പണിത അനുസരണയുടെ ജീവിതത്തിലോ?

കാരണം ഒടുവിൽ ദൈവം നമ്മൾ കേട്ട വചനങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണം നോക്കുകയല്ല; അവ എത്രത്തോളം ജീവിച്ചുവെന്നതാണ് നോക്കുന്നത്. കൊടുങ്കാറ്റ് വരുമ്പോൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്നത് കേട്ട സത്യമല്ല, അനുസരിച്ച സത്യമാണ്.

Matthew 7 does not end with comfort alone; it ends with a call to examine the foundation of our lives. Jesus says, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven” (v. 21).

Here, Jesus reveals an unsettling truth: words alone are not enough. A profession of faith must be confirmed by a life of obedience. Lips may confess Christ while hearts remain untouched by His will. Christianity is not merely a label we carry; it is a life surrendered to the Lordship of Christ.

Jesus then presents one of the most sobering scenes in Scripture: “Did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?” (v. 22). Yet His response is startling: “I never knew you. Away from me” (v. 23).

Once again, we see an important distinction: ministry is not the same as intimacy. It is possible to do many things for God while failing to walk closely with God. Spiritual activity is not always evidence of spiritual maturity. God is not merely looking at our accomplishments; He desires a genuine relationship marked by love, trust, and obedience.

Jesus concludes the chapter with the parable of two builders. One built his house on the rock, and the other built his house on the sand. Both heard the words of Jesus. Both faced the same rain, floods, and winds. The difference was not in the severity of the storm, but in the strength of the foundation.

The wise person hears the words of Christ and puts them into practice. The foolish person hears the same words but chooses not to obey them. The storms of life reveal what lies beneath the surface. Trials do not create our foundation; they expose it.

In the end, Matthew 7 leaves us with a searching question: What is our life built upon? Is it built on religious language without surrender, outward activity without inward devotion, or appearances without obedience? Or is it built upon Christ, the solid Rock?

For God ultimately measures us not by how much truth we have heard, but by how faithfully we have lived it. When the storms come, it is not the truth we admired that sustains us, but the truth we obeyed.

The Mirror, the Measure, and the Fruit
(Matthew 7 & James 4:17)

മത്തായി 7 ഒരു അധ്യായം മാത്രമല്ല; അത് ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണാടിയാണ്. മറ്റുള്ളവരെ വിധിക്കാൻ മനുഷ്യന് സ്വാഭാവികമായ ഒരു പ്രവണതയുണ്ട്. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് യേശു ആദ്യം ചോദിക്കുന്നത്: “നിന്റെ സഹോദരന്റെ കണ്ണിലെ പൊടി കാണുമ്പോൾ, നിന്റെ കണ്ണിലെ തടിക്കഷണം കാണാത്തത് എന്തുകൊണ്ട്?” (വ.1–3). ഇവിടെ യേശു വിവേചനത്തെ നിരോധിക്കുന്നില്ല; കപടതയെ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുകയാണ്. സ്വന്തം ജീവിതത്തിൽ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യാത്ത പാപങ്ങളെ അവഗണിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് മറ്റുള്ളവരുടെ കുറവുകൾ ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിക്കുന്നത് ആത്മീയ അന്ധതയാണ്.

ഈ തിരിച്ചറിവ് നമ്മെ വിനയത്തിലേക്ക് നയിക്കണം. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് തുടർന്ന് യേശു പറയുന്നത്: “ചോദിപ്പിൻ, അന്വേഷിപ്പിൻ, മുട്ടുവിൻ” (വ.7). സ്വന്തം ആത്മീയ ദാരിദ്ര്യം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞവനാണ് ദൈവത്തോട് സഹായം ചോദിക്കുന്നത്. സ്വയം നീതിമാനാണെന്ന് കരുതുന്നവൻ മറ്റുള്ളവരെ വിധിക്കും; സ്വന്തം ആവശ്യങ്ങൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കുന്നവൻ ദൈവത്തെ അന്വേഷിക്കും.

വചനത്തിന്റെ മധ്യഭാഗത്ത് യേശു ഒരു സർവ്വസാധാരണ തത്വം നൽകുന്നു: “മനുഷ്യർ നിങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്യണമെന്ന് നിങ്ങൾ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതൊക്കെയും നിങ്ങൾ അവരോടും ചെയ്യുവിൻ” (വ.12). ഇത് നിയമത്തിന്റെയും പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെയും സാരാംശമാണ്. മറ്റുള്ളവർ നമ്മെ മനസ്സിലാക്കണമെന്ന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ, നാം അവരെ മനസ്സിലാക്കണം. മറ്റുള്ളവർ നമ്മോട് കരുണ കാണിക്കണമെന്ന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ, നാം അവരോടും കരുണ കാണിക്കണം. ആത്മീയതയുടെ യഥാർത്ഥ പരീക്ഷണം ആരാധനാലയത്തിൽ അല്ല; ബന്ധങ്ങളിലാണ്.

തുടർന്ന് യേശു കള്ളപ്രവാചകന്മാരെക്കുറിച്ച് മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നൽകുന്നു (വ.15–20). ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ കാര്യം, അവരെ തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ അദ്ദേഹം അവരുടെ പ്രസംഗങ്ങളെയോ അത്ഭുതങ്ങളെയോ ജനപ്രീതിയെയോ മാനദണ്ഡമാക്കുന്നില്ല. “അവരുടെ ഫലങ്ങളാൽ അവരെ അറിയും” എന്നാണ് പറയുന്നത്.

സമ്മാനങ്ങൾ (gifts) ദൈവം നൽകുന്നതാണ്; എന്നാൽ ഫലങ്ങൾ (fruit) ദൈവത്തോടൊപ്പമുള്ള ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ തെളിവാണ്.

ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ എത്ര ശക്തമായി പ്രസംഗിക്കുന്നു എന്നതല്ല പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടത്; അവൻ എത്ര സത്യസന്ധമായി ജീവിക്കുന്നു എന്നതാണ്. ജനങ്ങളുടെ മുന്നിൽ പ്രകടമാകുന്ന ആത്മീയതയേക്കാൾ, ആരും കാണാത്തപ്പോൾ പാലിക്കുന്ന വിശുദ്ധി വിലപ്പെട്ടതാണ്. യഥാർത്ഥ ഫലങ്ങൾ സ്നേഹം, വിനയം, ക്ഷമ, വിശ്വസ്തത, കരുണ, ആത്മനിയന്ത്രണം, സത്യസന്ധത, നീതി എന്നിവയാണ്. ഇവ ഇല്ലെങ്കിൽ, എത്ര മനോഹരമായ വാക്കുകൾ പറഞ്ഞാലും വൃക്ഷം നല്ലതല്ല.

Matthew 7 is more than a chapter; it is a mirror for the heart. Human beings have a natural tendency to judge others. That is why Jesus begins by asking, “Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” (vv. 1–3). Jesus is not forbidding discernment; He is exposing hypocrisy. Ignoring the sins we have not dealt with in our own lives while highlighting the faults of others is a form of spiritual blindness.

This realization should lead us to humility. That is why Jesus continues, “Ask, seek, knock” (v. 7). The person who recognizes his own spiritual poverty is the one who seeks God for help. The self-righteous judge others; the humble seek God.

In the middle of the chapter, Jesus gives a timeless principle: “Do to others what you would have them do to you” (v. 12). This is the essence of the Law and the Prophets. If we desire understanding from others, we must be willing to understand them. If we hope to receive mercy, we must be prepared to show mercy. The true test of spirituality is not found in a place of worship, but in our relationships.

Jesus then warns about false prophets (vv. 15–20). What is striking is that He does not tell us to identify them by their preaching, miracles, influence, or popularity. Instead, He says, “By their fruits you will know them.”

Gifts are given by God, but fruit is the evidence of a life lived with God.

The real question is not how powerfully a person preaches, but how faithfully he lives. More important than the spirituality displayed in public is the holiness practiced in private. True fruit is seen in love, humility, patience, faithfulness, mercy, self-control, integrity, and righteousness. Without these, even the most impressive words cannot make a tree good.

This thought reaches its climax in James 4:17: “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” The problem is not only doing what is wrong; it is also failing to do what is right. Knowing the truth is not enough—we must live it. Hearing is not enough—we must obey.

In the end, Matthew 7 leaves us with a searching question: What kind of fruit is our life producing? Are people impressed by our words, or do they see Christ in our character? For God ultimately measures us not by our preaching, but by our fruit. Not by what our lips have said, but by what our lives have revealed.

We spend so much of life preparing for tomorrow that we sometimes forget to fully experience today.

What if success isn't just about reaching the next milestone, but about noticing the moments that quietly shape us along the way—the conversations, the lessons, the acts of kindness, the peace found in ordinary days?

As a new week begins, ask yourself: Are you merely passing through life, or are you truly present in it?

The quality of our lives is often determined not by what we achieve, but by what we appreciate.

One of the hardest spiritual lessons is learning that healing does not come from revenge.

Jesus had every right to condemn Judas, yet He chose compassion until the very end. That kind of love is beyond human pride — it is divine.

The cross was proof that God answers hatred with redemption.

‘Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.’ — Ephesians 4:32

Not every wound needs revenge. Some wounds need prayer, surrender, and the courage to let God handle what we cannot.
