I have just learned that Donal Triplett passed away on June 15th aged 89. He was the first person to be diagnosed with autism. He was diagnosed by Leo Kanner of Johns Hopkins Hospital. Triplett became extremely successful, gaining a Bachelor’s Degree in French and learning to drive. This enabled him to become a leader in the acceptance of autism in everyday life. A remarkable man.
Being autistic myself I feel that Mr. Triplett should be remembered as, if it wasn’t for him, Leo Kanner may not have continued his research and autism may not have been diagnosed for many years.
Thank you Don Triplett. May you rest in peace.
