Our Kindreds Story so far...

Hi, welcome to our page! Were glad you found us! Let us tell you a little bit about our group...

We are the Wight Dragon Kindred, we take our name from the dragon line, (sitting on a node along the UK’s Balinus ley line) which runs across our beautiful Isle from east to west. We use the name as a way of acknowledging and paying honour to our isles special and sacred pagan and heathen history. Our kindred is dedicated to re-awakening and promoting our Isles pagan history, which is both Druid and Heathen; and in our actions and maintaining the group we are honouring the Wihtwara, the last Heathen tribal settlers here led by Jutish King Arwald, who settled approximately 2,700 years ago, wiped out in the 686 genocide led by fundamental Christian Caedwella.

Our kindred was formed by 3 founder members in 2016, all solitary Heathens looking for a bit of in person ‘real’ company and community. We all found each other at the exact right moment, following a shout out post on Asatru UK Facebook group, we were able to meet up and form IOW Heathens, later to become Wight Dragon Kindred. We had similar hopes, the chance to enjoy social time together at moots, with lovely people who’s values and interests were similar. A safe and fully inclusive space that we agreed we would naturally allow to evolve and develop over the years. As Heathens the groves are our sacred sites, our gathering places, but finding each other at these spaces isn’t as easy as turning up at church on a Sunday.. so we got ourselves set up online so we could organise Moots and give us the opportunity to hold ritual and celebrations, and drink mead together!

We hold regular open moots on the 2nd Saturday, weather and admins calendars allowing. We always try and meet outdoors, we are thankfully spoilt for choice here, so it’s either the beaches, woods or the ancient Longstone (the site of the 686 massacre), with the occasional pub moot. For those interested in becoming involved and joining the Kindred, we also hold Ritual Celebrations for the key holidays, all are held outdoors, the exception being Yule, where it is traditional to all gather indoors and eat belly warming food. We generally gather for Ostara at spring equinox, Midsummer at summer solstice, Winters Night around autumn equinox and Yule around winter solstice.
