GATHER TO PRAY FOR TEESSIDE

This has been an incredibly difficult week for Teesside.

Our communities have been shaken by tragic deaths, serious violence, crime and events that have made national headlines. Families are grieving. Our police and emergency services are under enormous pressure. Many across our towns are understandably feeling shocked and unsettled.

On the very same week, churches across Teesside have come together to launch Bible Conversations, inviting thousands of people to encounter the Bible and discover Jesus.

For many of us as church leaders, this feels like a particularly important moment to PRAY.

Scripture reminds us:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood…” — Ephesians 6:12

One of our most important responses to moments like this is to pray and to ask God to bring his light, hope and blessing across Teesside.

There are TWO opportunities for Christians from across Teesside to gather and pray:

FRIDAY 28 AUGUST; 7.30PM ONLINE

Join Christians from across Teesside on Zoom to pray for our area.

St Barnabas Church

Christians from every church and tradition are invited to gather together.

We will pray for those who are grieving and afraid; for our police, emergency services and civic leaders; for peace and an end to violence and crime; and for God’s protection and blessing over our communities and we will pray that in the middle of darkness many people would encounter the hope and light of Jesus.

Please SHARE this with your church, small groups and Christian friends.

Prayer Vigil: Monday 24th August 2026. 4 - 8pm

Following the devastating crash on the A66 in South Bank in the early hours of hours of Saturday morning 22nd August, when two cars collided and seven people were tragically killed, prayers for the repose of the souls of the dead and for all who grieve, were said at Mass in the parish church of St John the Evangelist, South Bank this morning - Sunday 23rd August.

A Silent Prayer Vigil will be held in St John the Evangelist, South Bank tomorrow - Monday 24th August - between 4pm and 8pm.

Anyone who wishes to say prayers or light a candle in memory of those caught up in this tragic event, may visit the church at any time and stay for as long as they wish.

Fr. Malcolm Lockey SSC - the Parish Priest of South Bank - will say prayers every hour on the hour for those who lost their lives, for their families, friends and colleagues and all who are struggling with the great sense of loss and grief at this time.

He will also be available for anyone who may wish to speak with him privately and who might wish to seek personal prayer and support.
