🦇 Bat night at St Peters Church, Kirby Bellars!

Thursday 2nd July, come meet our resident Natterer's and Common Pipistrelle bats as part of our National Heritage Lottery-funded survey. Our 'bat man' Paddy will be leading a short talk and tour from 8:30pm til after sunset.

Come watch them take flight live overhead! 🌙

As we move closer to the end of the first phase of creating a future for St. Peters, it is governance that our minds turn to. This is to ensure we have the right skills to manage the next phases of the project, and create a sustainable group of people to support activities.

Nature Friendly Management at St. Peters

Thank you to those of you who filled in the survey we were running on creating a nature friendly environment in the churchyard at St. Peters.

With 35 responses, the Roof Resurrectors have created actions for this year and beyond. The survey results are available to anyone, if you want to comment or message me directly.
We have re-scoped the areas to be left to naturalise during 2026, and look forward to villagers feedback on how these changes are being received.

We are also starting to consider other ways to encourage fauna and flora into the churchyard. You may have noticed the deadwood hedge which has appeared as part of these initiatives. Focusing on the potential for the Silver EcoChurch award is fostering ideas.

We are also grateful to those individuals who offering their time in support. We will be in touch shortly to invite you along with your thoughts and ideas.

Great to see movement on the project, with the Heritage Lottery grant being recognised in the local newspaper.

The future of an historic village church has been safeguarded thanks to a £40,000 grant.

The volunteers helping to preserve and prepare St. Peters, Kirby Bellars, for the future, are pleased to let our community know they have secured a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. This money will enable us to ascertain the cost and extent of the repairs needed following the theft of the roof. In addition, we will be able to identify the role St. Peters will have in the future of the village. Watch this space!
