Christmas Day is behind us. Feast Day of St Stephen the first Christian Martyr at only 29 years old. Stoned to death, Stephen’s final words, a prayer of forgiveness for his attackers (Acts of the Apostles 7:60), echo those of Jesus on the cross (Luke 23:34). Stephen is the patron saint of deacons, bricklayers, and stonemasons and is also invoked against headaches (appropriate for today maybe)
An adapted benediction:-
“May the joy of the angels,
The humility of the shepherds,
The peace of the Christ-child
And the ability to forgive as Jesus and St Stephen forgave
Be God’s gift to us and all people”
Amen

May the joy of the angels,
The humility of the shepherds,
and the peace of the Christ-Child
be God’s gift to you and all people
this Christmas and always.
And the blessing of Almighty God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit be with us this Saviour’s Day, tomorrow and all our days. Amen

‘‘Tis the night before Christmas and we have our united Christmas Eve service at Auchinleck Church at 7pm.
Would love to see you there. If you’re coming I’d advise you to be wrapped up as if you were carol singing outside. (Unfortunately they’re having ongoing problems with the heating)
There will be tea and coffee and seasonal goodies available 😇🙏❤️🎅

Last week we celebrated St Andrew’s Day and Jesus’ disciple whose first thought was always for others first - he was a “people person” a trait seen in the Scottish people.
We also celebrated the first Sunday in advent, lighting the first candle on the wreath (thanks, as always to Irene, “Blooming Wonderful”)
The first candle is thought to represent the promise through the Old Testament of the coming “Messiah”, (“Christ” in the Greek)
This morning we light the second candle which speaks of the many prophets who foretold the coming of Jesus, “Immanuel” (God with us)
