This Sunday's Gospel reminds us of the importance of forgiveness. Peter asks Jesus how many times he should forgive someone who has wronged him. Jesus responds, 'Not seven times, but seventy seven times,' reminding us that forgiveness is not something we should place a limit on. The parable of the unforgiving servant challenges us to remember how much mercy and forgiveness God shows us. We are called to extend that same mercy to others even when it can be difficult. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting or pretending that hurt does not matter. It means choosing not to allow anger and resentment to have the final word. As we reflect on the Gospel this Sunday, let us ask ourselves: Is there someone I need to forgive, or perhaps someone from whom I need to ask forgiveness? May we open our hearts to God's mercy and allow His forgiveness to help us become more compassionate and forgiving towards one another.
