Cornerstone is hiring! We are looking for a Community Engagement Manager to join our team

A pivotal leadership role shaping how Cornerstone URC connects with its congregation and communities across South Manchester.

Today's prayer prompts. 7 photos I can't show for copyright reasons. An Ephesians 4:1-6 Word Search and an anagram unscrambler on the same passage.

Passage of the Day Ephesians 4:2:
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, you show us how to be patient with one another in humility and gentleness. May the light you have shined on our path lead us towards unity and help us heal the wounds of division and indifference that often break communities apart. Amen.

A reflection for COP30 from the Transforming Prayer Community in the Diocese of Manchester.
.for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7.

The news can make us fearful. The world seems full of disasters, conflicts, violence and growing inequality. We can be tempted to respond with apathy, even despair. Yet God calls us always to hope and often to action. In difficult times the call is more urgent - to look after each other and our common home, the earth.
As COP 30, the international climate change conference takes place (November 10-21) let’s pray that a new spirit will be at work there, not of fear but of self-control and a sense of God’s power and love.

Laying aside the spirit of fear, how can I love my global neighbours who are suffering the impacts of climate breakdown?

Following the anti-Semitic terrorist attack on the synagogue in Crumpsall on Thursday morning, Cornerstone United Reformed Church offers our most sincere sympathy to all those affected.

Religious hatred and violence are the antithesis of the common tenet of respect and compassion which lie at the heart of all major faiths.

Judaism: “That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That is the whole Torah; the rest is commentary.” (Talmud, Shabbat 31a)

Islam: “None of you believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself.” (An-Nawawi’s Forty Hadith 13)

Christianity: “Do to others what you want them to do to you.” (Matthew 7:12)

Buddhism: “Do not hurt others in ways you yourself would find hurtful” (Udanavarga 5:18)

Hinduism: “This is the sum of duty: do nothing to others that would cause you pain if done to you.” (Mahabharata 5:117)

God, we pray for peace:
For wholeness and healing,
For safety when violence touches us all.
God, we pray for peace:
For justice and compassion,
For acceptance in the face of hatred.
We will not be held hostage to hopelessness.
We pray for peace.
We struggle for peace.
We bring peace.
We will be whole

Shalom
