We, the undersigned, residents of the constituency of Newcastle-under-Lyme, call on Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council (NULBC) to formally urge Staffordshire County Council to protect College Fields in Madeley as an open-access green space.

We have received communication from the police, this morning, regarding the fire emanating from the Betley area.

We are informed that this has been declared a major incident and the police have asked that residents do not approach the vicinity of the fire, which emanates from Checkley Lane in Betley.

They have, also, asked that anyone who lives within a mile radius of the fire keep their windows and doors shut for the time being.

Following the success of their volunteer day a couple of weeks ago, Madeley Action Group will be hosting another action day around the pool on 6th June at 10am.

The group will be focusing on strimming the remainder of the Newcastle Road side of the pool, clearing debris from the stream, tidying the flower beds in the area and getting the parish ready for the carnival 🎉

Who can join us? The more the merrier and the group needs as much help as possible!

If you have petrol mowers, strimmers, leaf blowers or other tools please do bring them along!

The Parish Council are still working hard to secure College Fields for the people of Madeley.

Kimberley Walley met with Adam Jogee for Newcastle-under-Lyme this week to discuss how our MP can support the Parish in this fight. Following his petition earlier year, Adam remains supportive of the Parish Councils position that College Fields is Madeley’s village green and should be protection for public use.

SAVE THE DATE. Madeley Carnival is back.

Saturday 11 July 2026 — and this year, we're going back to our youth!

Our theme for 2026 is Childhood Favourites - so whether your era is SuperTed and Power Rangers, or Peppa Pig and Bluey — we want to see everyone embracing their favourite!

Kicking off at 12pm (a new later time) with the procession from All Saints Madeley to the The Madeley Centre, where you'll find all your usual carnival favourites — fairground rides, vintage cars, tractors, market stalls, food and drink — PLUS this year we're hoping to add something new: LIVE MUSIC.

And before the big day? Keep your eyes peeled for details of our Scarecrow Competition — coming soon.

We'll see you on 11 July. 🎡

Following on from our earlier post, we have been on site and spoken with the site foreman and workers, as well as managers at Amey.

Following on from those conversations, it seems that there has been a miscommunication between the County Council and the site workforce and the works should not have been proceeding today. As a result, the team will finish the works they are undertaking today and be pulling off site tonight.

A further work permit will need to be applied for, for a future date for the works to be done. We have, now, got direct contact details for the team at Amey and will be liaising with them directly regarding future works so we can keep residents informed.

We are aware that Staffordshire County Council have erected road closure signs throughout the length of the village.

We have, this morning, liaised with the High School, who were informed last week that these works had been cancelled. That position appears to be confirmed by One Network which does not highlight any works due to take place this week.

We are trying to ascertain from the Highways Department at the County Council what has happened and, whether, traffic management have put these signs up erroneously and will update if and when we get a response.

We will, in addition, be seeking details (again) of what works are planned if, and when, the advertised road closure does take place so that we can try to make representations (such as convoy working or limited time duration) to try and minimise the impact caused by any works.
