A prayer for the ones who've stopped telling people how they are. Father, some of us have gone quiet because it got tiring to explain. You don't need the summary — you were there for all of it. Lift the head that's been down a long time. 'God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.' — Psalm 46:1. Ever-present is the phrase to hold onto. Not summoned. Not arriving late. Already there. If this is you, you were prayed for today.

For the ones quietly doing the right thing with nobody clapping — caring for a parent, showing up for a difficult person, staying honest where it costs you. 'Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.' — Galatians 6:9. It doesn't promise a quick return. It promises a PROPER time — his timing, not the schedule we'd have written. Harvests are slow. That has never meant nothing is growing.

A question, and then the answer, in the same breath. 'I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.' — Psalm 121:1-2. It doesn't leave the doubt hanging in the air. And here's the lovely part: Psalm 121 is one of the Songs of Ascents, sung by pilgrims on the uphill walk to Jerusalem. It was written for people who were tired and still climbing.

A prayer for the week the numbers don't work. Lord, you know exactly what is owed and exactly what is coming in. Steady my hands at work and quiet the panic at night. 'And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.' — Philippians 4:19. The measure in that verse isn't your balance or your payslip. It's his riches. Praying for every household doing sums this week.
