A 25-year-old woman has been jailed for two years after subjecting her former partner to a campaign of domestic abuse, including controlling behaviour, assault and intentional strangulation.

Lilly Morgan Hubbard, from Northampton, met her former partner on TikTok in March 2025 and later moved into the woman's home in the West Midlands.

According to Northamptonshire Police, the relationship soon became strained. Hubbard regularly checked her partner's phone and became argumentative when she communicated with female friends.

The relationship later became physically abusive. In July 2025, Hubbard was arrested and charged by West Midlands Police with assault by beating and intentional strangulation.

She was released on conditional bail but continued contacting her former partner despite being prohibited from doing so. Police said she also sent video messages of herself self-harming through social media.

The woman later resumed contact with Hubbard because she was concerned about her welfare. On 21 October, she travelled to Hubbard's home in Bordeaux Close, Northampton.

Two days later, Hubbard deliberately set fire to a carpet and a toilet roll in an attempt to prevent the woman from leaving, according to police. The woman secretly contacted Northamptonshire Police, and Hubbard was arrested.

A subsequent investigation by the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit resulted in Hubbard being charged with seven further offences.

She pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour and one count of arson, as well as the West Midlands Police charges of assault by beating and intentional strangulation.

At Northampton Crown Court on 16 July, Hubbard was sentenced to 24 months in prison. She was also given an indefinite restraining order and ordered to pay a Β£187 victim surcharge.

Five other charges β€” including a second count of controlling or coercive behaviour, threatening a person with an offensive weapon, false imprisonment, threats to k*l and assault occasioning actual bodily harm β€” were ordered to remain on file.

Detective Constable Christopher Pritchard praised the victim's courage and said domestic abuse can be particularly difficult to investigate because much of the offending takes place behind closed doors and victims can be controlled or manipulated.

A 75-year-old martial arts instructor has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of 15 s*xual offences against a teenage girl during a period of around three years in the mid-2000s.

Anthony Swanson, of Wren Road, Sidcup, met the girl through martial arts classes he ran at a church hall in Beckenham. The classes were operated by the Taoist Arts Organisation, which Swanson founded in 1995.

The Metropolitan Police said Swanson groomed the girl before repeatedly sxually abusing and rping her. The abuse included an incident during a residential martial arts trip to Bath.

Police said the girl was also abused in the presence of her mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Swanson was found guilty at Woolwich Crown Court on 7 July 2026 of 15 offences, including four counts of rpe, four counts of indecent assault, three counts of engaging in sxual activity with a child, one count of inciting a child to engage in s*xual activity and three counts of sxual activity in the presence of a child.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison at Woolwich Crown Court on 28 August.

The victim's mother had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of s*xual activity in the presence of a child. She was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years.

Detectives believe Swanson may have other victims who have not yet come forward. Police said he taught children's martial arts classes in the Beckenham and Sidcup areas during the early 2000s and also led residential trips to the West Country and Inverness.

The Metropolitan Police is appealing to anyone who may have been affected by Swanson's offending to come forward. Information can be reported to police on 101, quoting CAD 1652/26AUG26, or anonymously through Crimestoppers.

A 33-year-old man from Cornwall has been jailed for 17 years after being convicted of three counts of r*pe and a separate offence of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Ryan Mitchell, from Newlyn, appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentencing after a jury found him guilty of all four charges.

The three r*pe offences involved a woman in west Cornwall and took place more than five years before the sentencing hearing. The GBH offence related to a separate attack on another woman in 2022.

Mitchell denied all of the allegations and pleaded not guilty throughout the proceedings. Following a trial, he was convicted by a jury on 14 November of three counts of r*pe and one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

His Honour Judge Simon Carr imposed a 12-year prison sentence for each of the three r*pe offences, with those sentences to run concurrently.

A further five-year sentence was imposed for the GBH with intent offence, to run consecutively. This resulted in a total sentence of 17 years in prison.

Mitchell will also be required to register as a s*x offender for life.

The court imposed a restraining order until further notice, providing ongoing protection following his eventual release.

The convictions followed a jury trial after Mitchell denied the allegations.

A care worker who stabbed a partygoer in the back and injured two others during a drunken knife attack has been allowed to continue working in social care.

Elisha Boniwell, 22, from Swansea, was convicted after an incident at a house party in July 2020, when she was 19.

Swansea Crown Court heard that Boniwell became heavily intoxicated before getting involved in a confrontation with another female guest. She then picked up a kitchen knife and threatened people at the party while waving the blade.

During the incident, one person was stabbed in the back and taken to hospital. Two others who intervened suffered cuts to their hands and fingers before guests managed to take the knife away.

Boniwell later admitted unlawful wounding and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She was given a 16-month suspended prison sentence.

The incident was later considered by a professional misconduct panel because Boniwell worked as a domiciliary social care worker.

The panel found that her conduct had breached the professional code of conduct. However, panel chair Farida Aslam decided that removing Boniwell from the professional register would be β€œunnecessary and counterproductive”.

Boniwell told the hearing that she had changed since the incident, saying she loved working in care and wanted to continue in the profession.

She has been allowed to remain registered as a social care worker and received a nine-month warning on her professional record.

A woman was allegedly stabbed and then smothered with a pillow by two friends who went on to β€œransack” her home, a court has heard.

Helen Bloomfield, 52, was allegedly m*rdered at her flat in Godric Place, Aetheric Road, Braintree, in March 2024.

Amy Keely, 40, and Charlotte James, 29, are accused of m*rdering Ms Bloomfield. Both defendants deny the charge.

Opening the trial at Chelmsford Crown Court, prosecutor Julian Evans KC told jurors that Ms Bloomfield suffered 44 injuries, including stab and cut wounds.

The court heard her body was discovered inside her one-bedroom flat on 19 April 2024, almost a month after the alleged attack.

Prosecutors said blood was found throughout the property, including the bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen. DNA belonging to both defendants was also allegedly found inside the flat.

Blood-stained scissors and five fragments from a broken mirror were among items recovered from the property.

The prosecution alleges that Keely stabbed Ms Bloomfield before James sat on her chest and used a pillow to smother her.

The court was told the two women allegedly later confessed their involvement to six other people.

However, both defendants deny being present when any violence took place.

The prosecution said there was no established motive for the alleged attack, which is believed to have happened at some point after 01:00 GMT on 20 March 2024.

The trial continues.

βš–οΈ LEGAL NOTE: Keely and James have denied m*rder. The allegations against them have not been proven, and they remain innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

A 39-year-old Indiana man has been sentenced to 27 years and three months in federal prison after pleading guilty to sxually exploiting a child and possessing and distributing child sxual abuse material.

Andrew Wade Case, of Columbus, Indiana, was sentenced on Tuesday after admitting to exploiting a child under the age of 12 who was in his care.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the incident took place on 19 December 2024. Prosecutors said Case forced the child to engage in s*xually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a four-minute video.

The material was later distributed through a peer-to-peer network, leading to alerts received by the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Bloomington Police Department.

Investigators subsequently searched Case's home and found the child living in severely neglected conditions, according to federal prosecutors. Officials said the child was sleeping on a floor amid insects and showed signs of untreated lice.

A forensic examination of Case's phone found more than 600 images and videos involving prepubescent children engaged in s*xually explicit conduct. Prosecutors said some of the material involved violence and exploitation of very young children.

Case pleaded guilty to charges including sxual exploitation of a child, distribution of child sxual abuse material and possession of child s*xual abuse material.

He will serve 327 months in federal prison, followed by lifetime supervised release. He must also register as a s*x offender for life, as required by law.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The sentence was imposed by U.S. District Court Judge James P. Hanlon.
