URGENT: Standing with our Syrian Brothers and Sisters in Christ
The sudden fall of Assad's regime in Syria and the swift takeover by HTS forces has created deep uncertainty for Christians in a land where the church has existed since the earliest days of Christianity. Syria features prominently in the early church - it was on the road to Damascus that Paul encountered Christ (Acts 9), and Damascus itself became an important early centre of Christian faith.
What We Know:
- Damascus, Aleppo, Homs and other major cities are now under new control
- Christians face uncertainty about their future freedom to worship and serve
- The new leadership promises tolerance but has a concerning track record
- Syrian believers need our urgent prayer and practical support
Yet in times like these, we remember that our God is sovereign. The same Lord who preserved His people through exile in Babylon, persecution in Rome, and countless political upheavals throughout history remains on His throne. As Psalm 46 declares, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
At Great Truths, our mission is to equip pastors across the world with solid biblical teaching resources. Times like these remind us why this matters so much - when churches face uncertainty and pressure, their church leaders need to be deeply rooted in God’s Word to guide their communities with godly courage, gospel convictions, and gracious wisdom.
Our Syrian brothers and sisters need our fervent prayers and practical support. We can:
PRAY:
- For the decade-long cycle of violence in Syria to end and for God’s healing, justice and mercy to overcome
- For the leaders of all parties to be led to reconciliation and for a clear commitment to protect innocent civilians
- For the Christians in Syria to remain a model of growing faith, love, and hope, even as they face great challenges
- For wisdom for church leaders and for opportunities to share the good news of Christ even in uncertainty
- For protection of Christian churches and other minorities, such as the Alawites and others
SUPPORT:
- Consider giving to trusted Christian organisations, such as Open Doors who support persecuted Christians
- Stay informed to pray specifically
- Share this need with your church family
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up." (Galatians 6:9)
