WHERE DOES YOUR PASSION LIE?
Adah Johnzion
A young boy once visited his Spiritual Director; a priest, and complained to him saying, "Fr, all the time you tell me ‘blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, that they would have their fill’, and that I should seek God in the scriptures, in my day-to-day life and in prayers, but all these I've done, yet, I'm not filled and I've not really had a quality encounter or enough of God as I yearn for, in fact, I've not really experienced Him as I desire or as I think you have".
Looking carefully at him, his Spiritual Director said, "then follow me". He took the young man to a stream located at the out sketch of the town and asked him to go stand at the middle of the water. He stood there and the water level was almost the young man’s height.
Slowly, his master advanced and on reaching him, he grabbed the boy’s head and firmly sank it deeply into the river. The young man struggled over and over again for minutes; he couldn't imagine how his master whom he had placed his trust in for over a decade would want to murder him; the shock and the struggle for oxygen continued until he was finally released. You could see him gasping and panting as one who traveled to space and his oxygen ran out. In his very confused and frightened state his master spoke to him saying, "until you desperately seek God as you just did in looking for oxygen, my child, you cannot, I repeat, you can NEVER find him".
You see, very many of us have the passion to accomplish certain things in life, but the question is, "how desperate, how focused and committed are we?"
In same vein, many of us know that despite our efforts, in our daily struggles we need God's special intervention to take us to the height we hope to reach or to the haven or the heaven we so long for, but the question still is, "do we yearn?" As the Psalmist would say, "like the deer that yearns for running streams, so my soul is yearning for you my God".
Dear friend, stop doing eye service and YEARN for God. Long for Him, seek him with the whole of your being and you'll find Him fully present, every minute and every hour. Thank you!
Pic: strive to visit God in the blessed sacrament and at your quiet time, he's always waiting for you to come and share from his ocean of love and mercy.
Go meet him, go! go! go!
