Join our Parish Choir.. AMDG!
As we begin a new academic year, we’re looking to welcome new members to the St Ignatius Parish Choir.

Music has always had a special place in the life of the Church. At Mass, singing is not simply something that happens in the background; it helps us to pray, to celebrate our faith and, importantly, to pray together as a community.

When we sing, we give voice to something that belongs to all of us: our praise and thanksgiving to God. That’s why having a parish choir matters. The choir helps to lead and encourage the whole congregation in song, while also enriching our celebration of the Eucharist. But a choir is about much more than music. It’s a community. It’s a place where people of different ages and backgrounds can meet, make friends, learn together and share in the life of our parish.

You don't need any previous experience, just a willingness to have a go, to learn and to enjoy singing with others.

As St. Augustine famously said, “S/he who sings prays twice!” Singing together can open our hearts to God in a way that words alone sometimes cannot.

So, come along on Wednesday 9th September to meet others in the choir. We sing every Sunday (except the third) at the 11:00am Mass. For more info, contact Ann, our music director on 07793 751 261. Sing to the Lord!

On August 2, just two days after the feast of St Ignatius Loyola, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Peter Faber, one of the original members of the Society of Jesus. This year as the feast fell on a Sunday it was overshadowed by the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time.

Faber was born in 1506 to a peasant family in the Upper Savoy region of France. In 1525, he traveled to Paris for his studies; there, he met Francis Xavier and Ignatius Loyola. Together under the leadership of Ignatius, they and four other companions would form the Society of Jesus.

Ignatius considered Faber the man best suited to direct others in the Spiritual Exercises, a series of meditations, prayers and other contemplative practices developed by Ignatius for spiritual growth. Faber spent a great deal of his Jesuit life working with Protestants during the Protestant Reformation, an especially tumultuous time in Europe. Faber died in Rome in 1547 a few weeks before he was due to attend the Council of Trent.

In 1872, Faber was beatified, but the cause for his sainthood stopped there. More than 140 years later, he was canonized by his brother Jesuit, Pope Francis, on Dec. 17, 2013, the pope’s 77th birthday.

Pope Francis had long admired Faber for his “dialogue with all, even the most remote and even with his opponents; his simple piety, a certain naïveté, perhaps; his being available straightaway; his careful interior discernment; the fact that he was a man capable of great and strong decisions but also capable of being so gentle and loving.”
