St Michaels Blackheath PRISM appeal

St Michaels Blackheath PRISM appeal St Michaels church in Blackheath has launched its PRISM appeal seeking to raise £720,000 for vital preservation, restoration and improvement works.

PRISM stands for Preserve, Restore and Improve St Michael's. St Michael's Church Blackheath is fundraising to restore the church, tower and fabric. St Michael and All Angels, Blackheath Park, built in 1828 - 30, is a Grade II* listed church. It is a focus of worship in the Cator Estate, drawing its congregation widely from surrounding areas of Lewisham, Eltham and Greenwich. Its tower and spire, k

nown as the Needle of Kent, needs to be repaired urgently and the stone of the church is disintegrating and at risk of breaking off. The heating is antiquated, using up large amounts of fuel. The flooring is breaking up and presents trip hazards to visitors. PRISM is an appeal for funds to restore the church to its former glory, to make vital repairs as well as making improvements to the church. These improvements will include a better, more efficient heating system and better access for users of wheelchairs and the elderly. We want the church to be more welcoming, providing greater community benefit and enabling regular meetings of local groups and many community events such as organ recitals and concerts to take place in comfort and safety. Please help us in this vital work. We are seeking to raise £720,000 from the members of the congregation, friends, former members, local residents and businesses through fund raising events as well as from grants from charitable organisations. We ask that you give generously to save and improve a cherished building, which is such a landmark site of South East London. Donations or your own fundraising pages for this cause can be set up via https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/stmichaelsblackheathrestorationfund

Yesterday marked the first Sunday Service led by our new Vicar, Rev Trevor Kemp. So, what a great opportunity to show a lovely photo from the induction service on 10th September of Trevor receiving the keys to St. Michael's!

St Michael's Blackheath now have regular posts on their page to enable you to keep in touch with the life of the church. Do follow if you don’t already.

It was so lovely seeing the sunshine yesterday morning, along with all the bright faces attending the 10:30am morning service!

We spent time rejoicing in God's power and actions by lifting our hearts through The Song of Hannah, whilst reflecting on Peter's doubt of faith to walk on water with Jesus in Matthew's Gospel.

Yesterday we were also blessed with some wonderful first time visitors to St. Michael's - a perfect time to focus on doors of our church that we can hold open for others in our local community ⛪️ 🙏

Next St Michaels art show opens this Thursday evening with wine reception. All welcome
