Brixton Triratna Buddhist Community

Brixton Triratna Buddhist Community We provide a local space for people to meditate together and explore the teachings of Buddhism.

Our aim is provide a local situation where people can meditate together and be supported in a lively exploration of Buddhism, in the context of the friendly and accessible community. You don’t have to be a Buddhist to come to our classes to learn to meditate or explore Buddhism. Almost all of our activities are provided freely to anyone who wishes to discover the benefits of mindfulness, meditatio

n or Dharma practice in their own lives. As a UK charity, we almost completely rely on online donations and donations given at our classes to continue our work in helping those who wish live a more liberated and mindful existence. We accept online donations via our website: https://brixtonbuddhistmeditation.org/donate

On Buddha Day we gather with a simple but powerful imagination: what does it mean to help build a Buddhaland right here in Brixton?

In the Buddhist tradition, the Buddhaland is described as a world shaped by clarity, compassion, and awakening. This is what becomes possible when minds and hearts transform. This year’s festival takes up that inspiration and asks: how do we begin to live that vision now, together?

We’re delighted that Prajnaghosa, Chair of Brixton Buddhist Centre, will be giving a special talk on building the Buddhaland here in Brixton in the midst of everyday life, community, and practice.

Throughout the day there will be meditation, reflection on the ideal of enlightenment the Buddha represents, shared ritual, and time to connect with others on the path.

All welcome

There’s something quietly powerful about resting together

In a room full of people, nothing to achieve, nowhere to get to

just lying down and allowing the body to soften
Relaxation isn’t always passive
it can be deeply transformative

When we stop bracing, even for a short time, something in us reorganises

Join us for an immersive sound journey with gong, singing bowls and more, inviting deep rest, imagery, and spaciousness.

Over six Wednesday evenings we’ll be exploring a central theme in Buddhist practice: the difference between a reactive mind and a creative mind, and what it means to gradually shift from one to the other.

Rather than being caught in habitual patterns of thought and emotion, the Buddha points to the possibility of living with more awareness, openness and freedom. This course is an invitation to explore that possibility in a practical, grounded way through teaching, meditation, discussion and reflection.

Each week we’ll look at how the mind conditions our experience, and how we can begin to work with it more skilfully in daily life.

Some glimpses of where we’ll be spending a week this summer

Rolling hills, quiet paths, and open skies at Adhisthana Retreat Centre - our home for the summer meditation retreat, 12–19 June.

A place designed for slowing down. For sitting still long enough to actually notice your life again. For meditation, reflection, friendship, and simplicity.

We’ll be gathering as a community to explore practices of kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, supported by the stillness of the land itself.

Booking is now open.

Sound has a way of reaching places words don’t always get to.

In deep listening, the body begins to soften
the mind stops gripping quite so tightly and something more spacious becomes available.

A gong bath is an immersion in sound - waves of vibration from gong, singing bowls and other instruments
moving through you.

In that environment, rest can become restorative in a deeper sense not just switching off, but a gentle re-patterning of attention, breath, and feeling.

Open to all, including those new to meditation

There are times when everything feels like too much to take in.

The world can feel heavy, fast, and hard to know how to respond to, especially when you care deeply about what’s happening.

Rather than trying to hold it all at once, Buddhist practice invites us back to something simpler: steadiness in the midst of it. A grounded presence that can stay open without tipping into overwhelm.

On our upcoming Meditation Day Retreat: Touching the Earth, we’ll be exploring the Earth-touching mudra - gesture of deep integration and grounding. A reminder of what it’s like to come fully into the body, rest in stillness, and reconnect with the support of the natural world and Sangha.

We’re delighted to welcome Ksantikara as our guest speaker. Ksantikara is an experienced and lively speaker who has led young Buddhist initiatives across the country and is one of the youngest chairs in the movement. Expect inspiration, humour and energy as he shares from his experience.

Buddhist teaching can be easy to understand but hard to put into practice.

That’s why our approach is experiential. Over six weeks, you’ll practice, reflect, and explore meditation with the guidance of experienced teachers and a supportive group. In this time you can notice for yourself how meditation can shift your mind, your heart, and the way you relate to others.
