1964年創立，聖馬田中文堂是當時英國唯一以中文聚會的聖公會教堂。我們為於倫敦市中心，我們承諾與那些處於社會邊緣的人同行。我們相信上帝就在邊緣。

聖馬田堂的起源

聖馬田大教堂座落於倫敦巿中心的樞紐，是一座巍峨古老的建築物，現址於1726年建成。面對特拉發加廣場，和國家藝術館成鼎足而立，是遊客必到的觀光景點。

聖馬田堂藉著守護聖者聖馬田，一位羅馬士兵昔日壯士斷斗蓬，而給衣不蔽體的露宿者，捨己關懷別人的精神而得名。在聖馬田堂的小聖堂就擺設了他的銅像，及在聖堂進門的左側都有聖馬田捨己關懷別人的畫像。遠自聖馬田堂主任牧師Dick Sheppard開始，在第一次世界大戰的時間,開始照顧回頭兵及將會開發前往戰場的士兵作憩息，開始了服務社會的一頁,時至今天，仍保留主耶穌基督的大愛，對露宿者的社會服務，肩負不可推卸的責任。

創立聖馬田中文堂 - 1950s

華人教會/中文堂源於五十年代初期;當時香港華人移居英國，在倫敦開設餐館和其他行業，聖馬田堂便與唐人街華人建立了千絲萬縷的關係。當時香港的何明華會督，在一年返英述職時,行經倫敦的唐人街

,看見華人因為言語不通導致的苦況,於是差派剛委任的李兆英會吏到倫敦來照顧唐人街的華僑。後李兆英會吏被按立為牧師，在1964年9月18日創立了聖馬田粵語堂。

聖馬田粵語堂在2005年正名為聖馬田中文堂，後來併入聖公會聖馬田堂，也是英國唯一以中文聚會的聖公會教堂。

本堂主任牧師 Sam Wells 的訊息：

近日，保守黨影子司法大臣，以及兩位知名的 Reform UK 黨領袖等人，對 3 月 16 日在特拉法加廣場舉行的公開開齋活動表達憂慮。

在這類討論中，人們很常提到「基督教傳統」和「基督教價值」，尤其當他們想說這些傳統與價值正受到威脅的時候。但較少有人真正說清楚：這些傳統與價值，到底是甚麼？

所以，我想列出十項：

愛人如己。（太 22:39）
你們願意人怎樣待你們，你們也要怎樣待人。（太 7:12）
我餓了，你們給我吃的。（太 25:35）
不可忘記用愛心接待客旅；因為曾有人這樣做，在不知不覺中接待了天使。（來 13:2）
耶穌問：「這三個人，哪一個是那落在強盜手中之人的鄰舍呢？」回答是：「憐憫他的那個人。」耶穌說：「你去照樣做吧。」（路 10:36–37）
耶和華向你所要的是：行公義、好憐憫、存謙卑的心與神同行。（彌 6:8）
要愛寄居的，因為你們在埃及地也曾作寄居的。（申 10:19）
聖靈的果子就是仁愛、喜樂、和平、忍耐、恩慈、良善、信實、溫柔、節制。（加 5:22–23）
耶穌對西門說：「我進了你家，你沒有給我水洗腳；但她卻用眼淚濕了我的腳，又用頭髮擦乾。」（路 7:44）
要為你所居住的城求平安；因為那城得平安，你們也隨著得平安。（耶 29:7）

看著這份清單，不禁讓人覺得：此刻，反而是那些在 3 月 16 日於特拉法加廣場歡迎各種信仰人士、為人預備食物、給予款待、表達善意的穆斯林朋友，更真切地活出了這些傳統與價值；比起那些口口聲聲說要捍衛這些傳統與價值的人，更是如此。

與其散播恐懼、流露敵意，基督徒也許更應該做的，是向我們的穆斯林朋友致謝——感謝他們為我們示範了恩慈的榜樣。
