✨ Be Part of Sussex History! ✨
At St Andrew’s, we’re embarking on a truly special project. raising funds to commission an icon for Sussex’s only female saint, St Lewinna.
St Lewinna’s story is extraordinary. Her relics were stolen centuries ago by a monk named Balger from the Abbey of St Winnoc in Flanders. A fellow monk and scribe, Drogo, wrote a detailed account of Balger's daring theft, the miracles attributed to St Lewinna, and the devotion surrounding her shrine — devotion that once very likely filled the very space we now know as our church porch.
Now, we have the chance to honour her once again.
By supporting this project, you’re helping us restore a piece of Sussex’s spiritual heritage and celebrate a saint whose story has shaped our community for over a thousand years.
🙏 Join us in bringing St Lewinna home in a new way.
Every contribution helps us create something beautiful, meaningful, and lasting.

Look from St Andrew's entrance porch at the burial mound from St Andrew's, this is where there was a settlement that pre-dates Bishopstone. It is thought that inhabitants on the hill top didn't like the weather there so moved to the valley.
