«Людська особа в епоху штучного інтелекту»
Група молоді Катедрального собору Пресвятої Родини Української Греко-Католицької Церкви взяла участь в конференції, присвяченій ознайомленню з енциклікою Папи Лева XIV Magnifica Humanitas та питанням, пов’язаним зі штучним інтелектом. Вечірню конференцію, на якій були присутні понад 60 молодих людей, провів о. Іван Харевич, єпархіальний координатор у справах молоді.
Конференція об’єднала Владику Кеннета Новаківського OBE, єпископа Української Католицької Єпархії Пресвятої Родини в Лондоні, українського ІТ-спеціаліста Богдана Пономара та Метью Гарві Сандерса, засновника і генерального директора технологічної компанії Longbeard.
Перша частина конференції включала коротку презентацію нової енцикліки Його Святості Папи Лева XIV Magnifica Humanitas, яка нещодавно була опублікована та присвячена викликам, що постають перед людською особою в епоху штучного інтелекту. Саму конференцію було організовано в контексті цього документа.
Звертаючись до молоді, Владика Кеннет наголосив на унікальній гідності людської особи, створеної на образ і подобу Божу. Він підкреслив, що жодна технологія, незалежно від рівня її розвитку, не може замінити людину, її свободу, моральну відповідальність, здатність любити та будувати справжні стосунки. Владика Кеннет також акцентував увагу на важливості відповідального використання сучасних технологій та збереження людяності в цифрову епоху.
Богдан Пономар — український фахівець у сфері штучного інтелекту та інформаційних технологій, який уже багато років працює в галузі ШІ та активно долучається до розвитку української професійної спільноти у сфері штучного інтелекту.
У своїй доповіді він доступно пояснив молодій аудиторії принципи роботи сучасного штучного інтелекту, його можливості та обмеження. Він наголосив, що, попри здатність генерувати тексти, аналізувати інформацію чи підтримувати розмову, штучний інтелект не володіє свідомістю, моральною відповідальністю або здатністю до справжніх людських взаємин. Богдан також звернув увагу на цінність людської особи в цифрову епоху. За його словами, штучний інтелект може бути корисним інструментом, але ніколи не зможе замінити людське спілкування, любов, співчуття та відповідальність. Він також зазначив, що в майбутньому справжні людські стосунки та особисте спілкування стануть ще ціннішими, оскільки залишаються тим, що жодна технологія не здатна відтворити.
Метью Гарві Сандерс, який долучився до конференції через Zoom із Рима, є засновником і генеральним директором організації Longbeard, що займається розробкою інструментів штучного інтелекту для Католицької Церкви. Він також є засновником платформи Magisterium AI, створеної для того, щоб зробити вчення Церкви доступнішим для людей у всьому світі. У своїй доповіді Метью поділився досвідом використання технологій штучного інтелекту в житті Католицької Церкви та розповів про можливості, які вони відкривають для євангелізації, освіти та поширення церковного вчення. Водночас він наголосив, що штучний інтелект повинен залишатися інструментом на службі людини й ніколи не може замінити людське мислення, моральне прийняття рішень чи особисті взаємини.
Після виступів молоді учасники поставили доповідачам багато запитань. Особливий інтерес вони виявили до тем збереження людяності в цифровому світі, відповідального використання технологій та підтримання духовного життя в умовах стрімких технологічних змін. У відповідь доповідачі заохотили молодь плекати справжнє людське спілкування, особисту молитву та автентичні взаємини як основу людського життя.

“The Human Person in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”
Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral Youth Group held a special conference introducing Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical Magnifica Humanitas and questions surrounding Artificial Intelligence. Fr Ivan Kharevych, the Eparchial Youth Coordinator hosted the evening’s conference attended by more than 60 young people.
The conference brought together Rt. Reverend Kenneth Nowakowski OBE, Bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy (Diocese) of the Holy Family of London, Ukrainian IT specialist Bohdan Ponomar, and Matthew Harvey Sanders, Founder and CEO of the technology company Longbeard.
The first part of the conference featured a short presentation of the new encyclical of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Magnifica Humanitas, which was recently published and is dedicated to the challenges facing the human person in the age of artificial intelligence. The conference itself was organized in the context of this document.
Addressing the young people, Bishop Kenneth emphasized the unique dignity of the human person, created in the image and likeness of God. He stressed that no technology, regardless of its level of advancement, can replace the human person, their freedom, moral responsibility, capacity for love, and authentic relationships. Bishop Kenneth also highlighted the importance of the responsible use of modern technologies and the preservation of humanity in the digital age.
Bohdan Ponomar — a Ukrainian specialist in artificial intelligence and information technologies, who has been working in the AI field for many years and is actively involved in developing the Ukrainian AI professional community.
In his presentation, he clearly explained to the young audience the principles behind modern artificial intelligence, its capabilities, and its limitations. He emphasized that despite its ability to generate texts, analyze information, or hold conversations, AI does not possess consciousness, moral responsibility, or the capacity for genuine human relationships. Bohdan also drew attention to the value of the human person in the digital age. According to him, artificial intelligence can be a useful tool, but it can never replace human communication, love, compassion, and responsibility. He further noted that in the future, authentic human relationships and personal interaction will become even more valuable, as they remain something no technology can replicate.
Matthew Harvey Sanders, who joined the conference via Zoom from Rome, is the Founder and CEO of Longbeard, a technology organization working on developing artificial intelligence tools for the Catholic Church. He is also the founder of Magisterium AI, a platform designed to make the teachings of the Church more accessible to people around the world. In his presentation, Matthew shared his experience of using artificial intelligence technologies within the life of the Catholic Church and spoke about the opportunities they offer for evangelization, education, and the dissemination of Church teaching. At the same time, he emphasized that artificial intelligence must remain a tool in service of the human person and must never replace human thought, moral decision-making, or personal relationships.
After the presentations, the young participants asked the speakers many questions. They showed particular interest in preserving humanity in the digital world, using technology responsibly, and maintaining spiritual life amid rapid technological change. In response, the speakers encouraged them to nurture genuine human communication, personal prayer, and authentic relationships as the foundation of human life.
