Pancakes for tea. Palms in preparation. 🥞

While we debate toppings and attempt ambitious flips, we’re also drying last year’s palm crosses to become the ashes that mark Ash Wednesday – a reminder that celebration and reflection sit side by side in the Church year.

From woven palms to soft ash, it’s all there in the grid.

The vicar insists she approaches the burning with deep theological reflection. We suspect she simply enjoys a well-managed flame.

Join us on Thursday 19th at 7pm for an evening of reflection, music and meaningful conversation at Soul Conversations.

We’ll explore love in all its depth and complexity — featuring music from Stevie Wonder, a discussion on God’s love, insights from All About Love by bell hooks, and reflections on The Four Loves by C.S. Lewis.

This Black History Month, St James begins a new sermon series:

Inspired by James Baldwin’s prophetic words and the Gospel call to truth, we’ll explore what it means — to face the truth, challenge silence, love with courage, and live with hope.

Baldwin echoed the old spiritual:
“God gave Noah the rainbow sign — no more water, the fire next time.”

It’s a reminder that God’s promise is not just protection, but responsibility: if we do not face injustice and change our ways, to see all as created and loved by God, we risk being consumed by our own fire.

Throughout the month, lay preachers from across our community will share the pulpit, helping us listen to a wider range of voices and see God’s truth afresh.
