Kadosh, Kadosh, Kadosh...Holy Holy Holy

'The eternal continuity of Gods holiness merely reveals our separation from him, not him from us. The view of Gods holiness, being erroneously perceived as an aggressive character of a distant and cold mystical figure, must be correctly understood as the passionately persuasive saviour motivated toward us in the coming of Jesus Christ through the collective of his divine attributes made irresistible by his grace, love, and beauty.'

'The Affections of Our Lord

What do you count as your greatest affection in life?

The Apostle John knew that true love for Christ was deeper than any other, and more involved the spiritual attributes of insight, knowledge, and truth.

In this way our Lord judged quiet John on what he would become through this intimacy i.e the son of thunder'

It's that time of year for new beginnings, fresh starts, resolutions, unnecessary pressure we put on ourselves to do more, be more, achieve more or even do less of, give up something or make changes.

But why? Why do we do this to ourselves? It's almost like setting ourselves up to fail before we have even began!
In reality that doesn't sound like a great start to the new year at all.
And why does any of that have to be started today anyway?

The bible says:
𝙄𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙'𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙚 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙚𝙙, 𝙗𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙡 𝙣𝙤𝙩. 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙮 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜: 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙛𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨. (𝙇𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 3:22-23)

How wonderful is that? True believers can have a fresh start everyday! God's mercy and compassion is so great a faithfulness that everyday is a chance to start afresh - with God.
Not in our own strength, not our own desires or wants but in all His ways for us. And as true believers we know that His ways are far greater than our own ways.

So as we head into this new year let us remember our great need of Him. 𝙇𝙚𝙩 𝙪𝙨 𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙮 𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙪𝙥 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙃𝙞𝙢. (𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 16:24)

Let us stand firm on the promises of our mighty God. Fully trusting that 𝙬𝙚 𝙠𝙣𝙤𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙂𝙤𝙙, 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙚. (𝙍𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙨 8:28)

God's Word is filled with rock solid commitments, made by Himself, to His people. It is the ultimate source for truth and God is faithful to fulfill all His promises. We can have full assurance that what God has pledged will indeed be realised.

"Jerusalem the golden" is the one and only goal of our heart's longings.

𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙤𝙧𝙙 An exercise both for earthly and heavenly worshippers. We must not enter the assemblies of the saints in order to see and be seen, or merely to hear the minister; we must repair to the gatherings of the righteous, intent upon the gracious object of learning more of the loving Father, more of the glorified Jesus, more of the mysterious Spirit, in order that we may the more lovingly admire, and the more reverently adore our glorious God. What a word is that, "the beauty of the Lord!" Better far—behold it by faith! What a sight will that be when every faithful follower of Jesus shall behold "the King in his beauty!" Oh, for that infinitely blessed vision!

Behold meaning: to keep a hold of, grasp it, to gaze at with awe and appreciation. To look, pay attention, keep your eyes upon.

𝘼𝙢𝙚𝙣

Have you ever wanted a moment to last forever? Perhaps it was a special holiday, a breathtaking view, or a Christmas concert, like Handel's 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘩! Whenever we get a glimpse of glory, of exquisite beauty, or near-perfect happiness, even our weary, finite hearts want the experience to never end.
Handel's triumphant finale to 𝘔𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘢𝘩 lifts our eyes to heaven's throne room. We see a Lamb standing in the middle of the throne, looking as if it had been slain. An angel searches for someone worthy to open a scroll, sealed by seven seals, symbolic of God's cosmic plans. A weeping apostle John almost gives up hope of finding someone qualified to open the scroll. And then, up steps the Lamb.
At this, heaven's courts erupt in a song of endless praise. They sing of why the Lamb is worthy to open the scroll - because He was slain, and with His blood He purchased persons from every people group on earth. By laying down His life, as an atoning sacrifice, Jesus opened the way into the Holy of Holies, for all nations. For this slain Lamb of God is also the sovereign Lion of Judah, the root of David, the one from Israel's royal line whose reign and kingdom was always going to be universal and eternal.
'Blessing and honour, glory and power be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne [God the Father] and unto the Lamb [God the Son].' Layer upon later of praise is poured on the One who so masterfully and mercifully redeemed wretched sinners at the infinite cost of His own blood.
Praise is an experience that is simultaneously God-exalting and soul-satisfying. In the words of the Heidelberg Catechism, 'The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.'
The words 'for ever and ever' are repeated sixteen times before the final 'Amen's total nearly fifty. But that doesn't even scratch the surface. Handel's glorious oratorio sadly has to come to an end. You have to eventually open the last door of the Advent calendar and put the remains in recycling. But not so with God's praise. As we close our studies this Advent, we invite you to 'come and sing' with the heavenly chorus, 'Worthy is the Lamb'. Redeemed loved ones who have gone before us are already singing. Hallelujah!
