In Acts, we read the term – full of the Spirit – several times and it is always associated with great times of blessing and growth. Being ‘full of the Spirit’ will mean a consistent display of the fruit of the Spirit. It will mean daily, hourly perhaps, times of sanctification ensuring that once again, we are filled again with the Holy Spirit, so that communion is ongoing enjoyment. Eph 5:19, ‘be filled’, is imperative. I am glad that these terms did not apply only to the apostles, the 7 deacons were also full of the Spirit, Act 6:3. We can only live a Christian life while we are full of the Spirit, walking that Narrow Way and there is a beautiful and fruitful display of the fruit of the Spirit.

The fruit of the Spirit is … 8 positive attributes, plus self-control, Gal 5:23, which is both positive and negative. Positive in that we commit ourselves to please God above all else, but negative, not just to spot the temptations that come and say - no - but also to identify the situations where those temptations arise. When we understand that a particular course of action can be the arena where Satan has had a victory, we will then try and avoid that situation, or at least, be guarded about the possibility of failure. Wise as serpents and as harmless of doves, said Jesus, is a wonderful picture of self-control. For your heavenly Father is even more ready to give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks. Luk 11:13. Here are the great imperatives to the Abundant Life. Pray much to be filled with the Spirit; a Christian Life cannot be lived without Him!

Eph 4:1,2 - Walking worthily … with all humility, gentleness, and with patience, bearing with one another in love – humility comes from a good understanding of who God is. When we appreciate the immense holiness of God, we will see how insignificant we are, and humility will characterise us. There is a false humility, so what is the true? Jesus said – blessed are the meek, they will inherit the earth, Matt 5:5. Meekness is strength controlled and the last of the 9 fruit of the Spirit is - self-control - so, don’t confuse this with weakness. This is the enjoyment of the sons and daughters of God as they walk the Narrow Way. Pray on; many more of these Soldiers of the Cross are required for the harvest.

God has always been trying to stop people fighting each other! It is so sad that there are plenty who are like the Old Testament Warrior Culture. The Law of Moses said - love God and your neighbour – but Israel failed to keep that law and was unable to teach it to the nations around them, so God had to resort to the plan B and raise up the 4 Superpowers to do it, Dan 2. The 5th one will soon be here! It is so good that to those who enjoy Jesus have a - peace that surpasses understanding, Eph 3:19 - and it does not matter what the circumstances are, nothing external can rob us of that peace. This peace brings a humility of character which is also unlike the present culture. Pray on!

Rom 12:16 - Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Humility is the most severe test for those who would walk the Narrow Way. The flesh always seeks to stand up for itself, it desires big recognition and hates to be ignored. Humility is the acid test for church leaders, how are they in a church? They are not always out front, or the centre of every group. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth! Mat 5:5. The Oversight, the team of 1Tim3 elders will be known for their love and teaching, but not so much for the pulpit! Such men are indispensable, without them the church is merely a religious club. Pray much for real leaders!

Thought for Wednesday 6th October 2021.
Rev 2:2 - I know your works! – Do we really believe that God is interested in us, in what we do every day? What does evaluate what we do on a Sunday? Jesus says to the 7 churches – I know – where they were, what they did, even their attitudes. It would be wonderful if our preachers knew what they’re at and what God thinks of their barrenness. Without vision, the people die, Prov 29:18, and the acceptance of the status quo today shows that most church members are dying, if not dead, so the Bema will be an uncomfortable time for many. Pray on faithful ones!

Thought for Tuesday 5th October 2021.
Rev 3:22 - He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches – oh for listening ears and open hearts! Too many churches are too steeped in their traditions to have either! Church Culture is a hindrance to the Kingdom of God and it is imperative that we stop to listen to Jesus knocking at the door! Rev 3:20. We need that communion that He wants, it is desperately needed to reverse the ills in and out of the churches. Few preachers have any idea of what can be done by a worshipping church; yes, the impossible! Mat 7:24 - Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock!

God knows everything! It is impossible for finite minds clouded by cultures that have long dominated secular societies, to realise that nothing is impossible for God, Mark 9:47. Only hearts and minds enjoying the intimacy of followship with God can begin to appreciate what God wants for them and of them so that His Kingdom is advanced. What an immense privilege to have the mind of Christ, Phil 2, that will glorify the Saviour! We miss out on so much when we are dominated by church cultures that know nothing of freedom in Christ. If only a few churches were to move into the love and power of the gospel they would make a huge difference in this love-starved society! Pray on faithful remnant!

Thought for Sunday 3rd October 2021.
Is God frustrated now by the impotence of His people to advance His Kingdom? Covid has concluded the weakness of our churches. But no, God knows the beginning from the end; He has set 6 Days for Satan to do his worst and Father knows we’re no match for him unless we enjoy the filling of the Holy Spirit. I am so glad that God’s mercy knows no bounds and that our 6,000-year testing is almost over, how blessed it will be soon for the Overcomers! From Laodicea, there will be those who - will sit with Jesus on His throne, Rev 3:21. It will merely be a change of address for them, they worshipped below, and it will never cease above! There is a great need to reap the huge harvest, so Jesus will be glorified in these few last days of the Age of Grace; pray on Remnant!
