Today's Faith Story is one in the written word rather than video as that seems to suit people better. This is Tiff Biddle from Liskeard (her video was featured a few days ago)

"At the beginning of the pandemic my husband lost his job and we were placed on Universal Credit which was a really worrying time. We've got four kids so they were all home, being home schooled. It was just a really worrying and stressful time.
Because we were in lockdown there were no jobs around. Everyone had to stay at home obviously, so finding a job was hard. Finding work in Liskeard, in Cornwall is difficult anyway...throw in a pandemic, and it just felt like the worst time! We didn't know what to do.
Then we had the spark of an idea to start our own business so we bought in some small ceramic shapes and some paints and we started selling craft kits in Liskeard. From there we grew and we moved our stuff online. We did really well on Etsy and on our website.
Then we got a workshop in the Old Brewery in Liskeard which has been lovely. We've made some really lovely friends there. We've just been able to expand again into having our own separate pottery painting studio which is really exciting!
I think it proves that even in the most worrying times and in situations where you don't know what's going to happen and you can't see a way out, God finds a way of turning everything around and of doing amazing things.
Even when the whole world was still, He was still moving and working for all of us."

In today’s Faith Story, (written this time, rather than on video) Kathy Hebbs from Polperro shares a special moment which has shaped her faith and stayed with her for 30 years…

“In 1983 when I was 33 I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. I had two operations to remove my Thyroid Gland and then some radiotherapy to try and kill off any remaining cancer cells.

My daughter Lucy was just three years old and I had a husband in his early 60’s so as you can imagine I was terrified. How on earth would they cope if I died? The few relatives we had were miles away in London.

On this particular day I was back at the hospital for some follow up scans and X-rays to check if there had been any spread.
I was back in the changing cubicle getting dressed. I always wore a cross and chain, mainly because it had been given to me by my gran, but I wasn’t really a church goer- although I think I did believe in God.

I was just fastening the chain with shaking fingers, when I experienced such a feeling of peace and calm , a feeling of complete safety.
It sounds mad, but I seemed to hear a voice - not like a road to Damascus voice - but inside my head that said “it’s alright, you’ll be alright, don’t worry’. That’s all I remember but that moment has stayed with me for over 30yrs.

As you can see, I didn’t die, I still have to go back each year for check ups but my daughter Lucy is now 38 with three lovely children of her own. Soon after that day, I started attending Polperro chapel on my own, Lucy joined the Sunday School, I became a member and a Sunday School leader. I’ve met some lovely people over the years and I say, long may it continue. I know that God spoke to me on that day and it changed my life and I feel truly blessed.”

I believe getting to know each other well is a true blessing... our experiences. hopes, fears, dreams.

Anyone that knows me well, knows that my faith is not limited to one particular style of worship, a particular building or group of people. My faith is in a God that works through every one of us, in every given moment, the way we are and our relationships with one another in the world.

With this in mind, from now until Christmas, Liskeard & Looe Methodist Church Circuit will feature the Faith Story of a unique individual from our congregation. They will share what their personal faith means to them and how it came to be.

The Methodist Church encourage us all to find fresh, authentic ways to talk about our faith so that we might bring hope to the world.

Today, Evon Roberts shares her story of how her faith was affected by the time she spent serving in Northern Ireland.

Evon lives with Multiple Sclerosis. She serves us as our Circuit Treasurer but also supports many local charities and groups...we'll focus on these aspects of her life in future stories.
