Synod members showed their support for 'Thursdays in Black' on day one of General Synod 2026 at the Stirling Court Hotel.

Members were invited to join with the Provincial Global Partnerships Committee and wear black to highlight the global movement urging an end to violence against women. Thursdays in Black encourages everyone, regardless of gender, to wear black every Thursday.

“Wearing black on Thursdays shows others that you are tired of putting up with violence, and calls for communities where we can all walk safely without fear; fear of being beaten up, fear of being verbally abused, fear of being r***d, fear of discrimination,” said Ms Miriam Weibye, Church Relations Officer.

“The Scottish Episcopal Church has promoted this peaceful form of protest against r**e and violence in Scotland since being introduced to Thursdays in Black through its partnerships in Brazil and India, and through its relationship with the World Council of Churches.”

A prayer from St Margaret’s Church

Our new Railway is somewhat of a miracle to happen to our community and Destination Levenmouth. Taking a moment to appreciate this, the Churches of Levenmouth have come together and created this blessing. Regardless of your beliefs, there's something that can be taken from these words

Connection
We all need connection
with one another, as human beings
with the wider world around us
with the earth which sustains us
within our own selves, to know ourselves better,
and with the Being that created us
and loves us
and seeks for us to do better
One of the most important means of connection across our land
was cut.
But today that connection is restored.
We seek God’s blessing upon those who worked so hard to ensure this happened,
upon those who put their hard work and sweat into building it,
upon those who keep it going
upon those who travel out for work, or leisure
to visit family and friends
upon their connection to the land;
And upon those who will come into our community
for work, or leisure
to visit family and friends,
we wish them joy.
And we remember those who gave their lives in the past
in their work upon the old railway.
They are never forgotten
By their family and friends.
May we never forget them.
And may we seek God’s protection upon those now working the rails,
that no lives are lost, harmed, or wounded.
We seek God’s blessing upon the land over which we travel
the farmers who till the soil and grow our food
the Fisherfolk who know the sea
the RNLI, who ensure their safety.
And we seek God’s blessing upon the wildlife we can see from the train,
the deer, the pheasants, the rabbits and hares, the birds of the air
and the seals in the sea.
May all be blessed.
May this connection bring hope to a community left behind,
behind no more
but leading in hope
in warm welcome
with music in the heart
and a joyful twinkle in the eye.
May God bless this day
and all the days to come
May we continue to build connection
between ourselves and the world around us
and may that connection be sweet.
Amen
