Immensely thankful for a fantastic Roots weekend away. Thanks to all who came and made it such a hilarious and special time together - what a way for Roots to finish! With celebration of our unique gifts, calling and vision; wonderful prayer and worship; beautiful walks, funny games, abundant food, and of course many kinds of dancing!! 🤪 🎉

Being an “intercultural pioneer minister” has been a wild ride - this weekend was such a lovely end to an intense rollercoaster 5 years with Leicester Diocese and the CofE. Massive thanks to all who have been part of the Roots community over the last 5 years (and of course to God!) - we have learnt so much together through some incredibly challenging circumstances, the unpredictable whims of the Home Office, people’s profoundly painful situations and understandably huge questions. May we all continue to catalyse curiosity, encourage and challenge, pray and question and celebrate and weep and dream and feast and learn, as God unravels and leads each of us in the ever-changing landscapes of our lives. ♥️

Final Roots gathering this evening (except for next week’s Weekend Away!) - and we fitted a LOT in! We explored Passover, the full story and the special foods, and what they can each mean for us today… Then we went through the events of Holy Week, and pondered which part of the week might particularly resonate with each of us at this time. And of course we celebrated together, with chocolates and lamb kebabs and cakes, and shared some small gifts! It’s not quite goodbye just yet, but it’s goodbye to the lovely city centre cafe space that we’ve used for the last few years ❤️

We didn’t gather together yesterday for Palm Sunday as Roots, but it was nice to remember our last year’s Palm Sunday gathering -

We tied a knot in a scarf…
Jesus said, "Go to the village ahead of you, and you will find a donkey tied there, with her c**t by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them."
…Untie the knot in the scarf.
What might Jesus want to untie in your life at the moment?

“The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the c**t and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.”
…Lay down the scarf on the floor, as if Jesus is about to ride over the scarves on the donkey.
What might Jesus be inviting you to lay down at his feet?

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
…Pick up the scarf and wave it in the air joyfully!
Hosanna means “save now!”. Are there areas of your life that you’re desperate for God to save in some way? …Who else do you know who needs Jesus’ salvation? 🙏

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
….Everything in all creation cries out in worship to God!! What do you want to adore and worship God for this week? What do you most love about God / what amazes you most about Jesus? 🤩 🎉 ♥️ 🙌

Morning!! Hope you’re having a good Monday so far! ☀️

THIS THURSDAY is our last Roots gathering!! (except for the weekend away next week 🤪)

We’ll be in the cafe at 6pm and we’ll have lamb kebabs together, ponder the Passover story and the events of Holy Week, and celebrate Easter!! Let us know if you’re coming 🎉 🐑 🌅
