As of Friday, the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons is now in force. Under this treaty, countries are forbidden to develop, store or threaten to use nuclear weapons. Unfortunately (and unsurprisingly), the UK has not signed up to this treaty, but it is nonetheless an important milestone, and may lead to more countries disposing of their nuclear weapons due to international pressure.
In the meantime, we can put pressure on financial institutions to stop funding nuclear weapons development by writing to them - see the link below to find out whether your institution has nuclear weapons investments. We can also encourage the government to end its nuclear weapons programme by signing the CND petition in the below link and/ or writing to our MPs.

Hi all,
Hope you're all well. Here are two things I thought you ought to know about.

1) Lancaster SCM is having its first Lent term meeting next Wednesday at 7pm, where we will be planning the rest of the term and possibly playing a few games. Everyone is welcome.

2) The national Student Christian Movement is holding its first Theology Thursday event tonight. Bungie Bunting, a URC minister and pacifist, will be talking to us about his experience as a minister in Faslane, where Britain's nuclear submarines are based.

For information on how to attend either of these, please message this page.

Tomorrow we're looking at SCM's campaign on food poverty. Message the page for details to join the meeting online.
