Morag was a wonderful person who worked hard for, and in, our Community. She truly did spread the Good News through action.
A service to celebrate the life of retired Church of Scotland Deacon Morag Crawford DCS is being held at Bathgate Parish Church in West Lothian at 12.30pm on 1 June 2026, followed by a burial service at Boghead Cemetery then a gathering in the church hall.
Tea, coffee, and food will be provided and stories and memories of Morag’s life will be shared.
The funeral service will be streamed live on the parish church's website - a link can be found in the comments section below.
Born on 12 June 1947 in Bathgate, she returned to the town after retiring, living there until her peaceful death at home on 17 May.
She was commissioned a Deaconess in 1977 after training at St Colm's College, Edinburgh.
Morag held two Diaconal posts; the first in Drylaw, Edinburgh where she lived throughout her working life, and the second in Rosyth in Fife.
She was involved in schools work, leading worship, engaging with the community, mentoring and workplace chaplaincy.
Morag exemplified her diaconal call, going out to meet people where they were and bringing the gospel to them.
During her time in Rosyth, she wrote a book about the Diaconate called "A Story to Tell " in which she recounted the history of the Church of Scotland Diaconate and shared the stories of Deacons, past and present.
Morag had not kept in the best of health since retiring but continued to take an interest in the Church and Diaconate, truly appreciating the connections she had with people.
She loved to offer hospitality to people in her home and touched many lives over her years of ministry.
