With our Heritage Day coming up on Saturday the 19th when our Meeting House is open to the public from 10 till 4pm, here are a few things you might notice in old Quaker buildings: they're often full of light; the benches are arranged in a square or a circle, not facing in one direction; there are no pictures or memorials, brassware or anything else of particular material value in the building. There may be quite large grounds, but very few gravestones: many Quakers lie in unmarked plots; the grave markers you see are all of the same design and show the same simple information on each one; there's a wonderful, peaceful atmosphere about the whole place which is instantly relaxing.

We can see the presence of God in every aspect of our lives, so that whatever our situation it is shared and understood. Using this symbol we can above all see God in our fellow-humans and thus be called to service. In every homeless child, every refugee, every criminal or outcast, every worker or preacher, those in authority or those without it, there is a child of God, and who is precious and loved.

Church leaders in Liverpool are inviting you to join them for a Walk of Witness, as part of the recently launched Time to Act campaign.

The campaign, organised by the Just Peace Coalition, is a growing, UK-wide ecumenical movement. United in the belief that a just peace in Israel and occupied Palestine is possible, the initiative is mobilising church communities to amplify the voices of Palestinian Christians and pressure the UK Government for end support for Israel's illegal occupation of Palestine.

On Sunday, September 27, as the Labour Party Conference opens, a Walk of Witness will begin, from Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, led church leaders.

The walk will finishes at Liverpool Cathedral where there will be a panel discussion featuring featuring Palestinian farmer and peace activist Daoud Nassar from the Tent of Nations, Canon Yazid Said, and representatives of the Just Peace Coalition, followed by a peaceful vigil outside the Labour Party Conference venue.
