St. Augustine's Church Halifax Our hearts are restless until they rest in you - Augustine of Hippo (13/11/354 - 28/08/430) Augustine's Junior & Infant School, Hanson Lane. St.

We are a small and friendly church, made up of a wide diversity of ages, nationalities and backgrounds. The Victorian church building was demolished in 1972 so services are now held each Sunday in the school hall of St. Augustine's has been part of a united benefice with Christ Church Mount Pellon since 1st April 2009. As of June 2021 the benefice is in an interregnum.

The Lady Chapel in the old St. Augustine’s Church building, showing the Mouseman altar and lectern in situ. We believe the Lady Chapel was created in the 1940s, but we don’t know the date of the photograph. We are hoping that the Mouseman company will have records to confirm when the altar and lectern were purchased – watch this space!

At this morning’s service our Mouseman altar was reunited with the matching lectern for the first time in several years....

At this morning’s service our Mouseman altar was reunited with the matching lectern for the first time in several years. We are looking forward to using them in our services every week going forward, not only are they beautiful objects, but also a tangible link to our history and the faithfulness of those who worshipped as part of St. Augustine’s before us. We know that they stood in the Lady Chapel of the old St. Augustine’s Church building in the 1940s and we hope to learn more about their history.

Many thanks to Christ Church Mount Pellon who looked after the altar for us in recent years.
