The parish which the Church of Christ the Redeemer serves was created in the early 1960’s by carving out two sections from neighbouring parishes, Holy Redeemer Greenford and It replaced temporary huts used for many years. The incumbent at the time, Fr.George Grainger, was keenly interested in new liturgical thinking. His wise guidance led to the creation of a building which expresses perfectly the

view he stated to his Church Council that, “the task of modern architecture is not to design a building that looks like a church, it is to create a building that works as a place for the performance of the liturgy and for proclaiming the Gospel”. The architect, Michael Farey, was given a clear commission to do just that. The result is a Church, opened in 1964, which still proclaims to all, the faith of the Church it was built to shelter. Today Christ the Redeemer is a thriving Parish Church, which reflects the ethnic diversity of the parish. The only service on a Sunday is the 9.30am Sung Mass, the worship is Catholic in style, but liberal, relaxed and welcoming of all.
